Solar Eclipse Photography

I plan to take some pics of the eclipse on Sunday with a Sony NEX-C3 mirror less camera. Will I need a solar filter even though the eclipse happens at sunset? Could I just use a UV filter without damaging the camera? I'm going to be taking the pics from a mountain top at 4,000 feet if that makes any difference.

I'm not entirely sure, I've not much experience at all with eclipses, from my experience though, I would imagine however that you would only need a filter for the partial phases only, and during the full eclipse I would take it off, make sure you have a filter that can quickly be removed. You should post your pics though eclipses are sexy.

Get an eclipse filter (specifically for eclipses) or else makeshift and shoot through one of those plastic eclipse viewer glasses you can buy for 2$.
