PF Tek or WBS for a newbie? Experts?
    #1622048 - 06/09/03 08:14 PM (20 years, 10 months ago)

What do you prefer for a grow?  What method yields the most fruit succesfully?  Any advice from the pro's would be greatly appreciated!

for your first grow i would go with a modified pf tek.....instead of birthing as cakes try casing with 50/50 or cococoir

its pretty easy and teaches you alot about growing shrooms

pf tek is more of the "starter" tek. It is really easy and I recommend it if it is your first time, so you can get a since of growing. The wbs tek is a little more difficult, and yields more weight with a casing (especially manure). The pf tek is best performed with half pint jars, while the wbs focuses with mostly quart jars.

Do you have a favorite newbieish tek for the casings. I am starting my cakes tonight, and am still debating on whether I should case or just grow them on cakes.

Go WBS. PM me if you want my tips, I was a newbie and found WBS much easier.

I'm with pavment..  my friend started some PF Tek jars back in the beginning of may and they arent 100% colonized yet! His WBS jars colonized in about 7-14 days!

i'm not a pro but in the begining - start at the begining - do the pf tek. wbs and pc's will work for the beginner some times. but i think the key is in technique and knowledge ( and sterility )  good luck !

Even a chinchilla with an overly small penis could reason that, starting with something almost guaranteed to work(PF Tek) is going to be better for a newb. If you have the spores, try both at the same time, keep going with the one you are better at. Do more than one of each just to make sure it isn't a fluke that it worked out good.

The grey squirrel has some hawaiian jars that will be done colonizing at the most 14 days after innoculation, and he used Pf for them, its all in how dark the syringe is.

Side note: My biggest shock was that I spelled chinchilla correctly on the first try, yet made a typo on the word "something"

If I had a PC I would use the Puarto method for a first time.

Well, my first grow is just about done with the first flush. I did six pf tec jars and 18 wbs jars. If you have a pressure cooker, go with wbs or something like it because the wbs colonizes in about half the time. I fruited 3 brf and 1 wbs cake, and made the rest into casings. By the time my casings were pinning I already had shrooms from the cakes. But there are well over 20 times the # of little shrooms on just one casing that there were on all of my cakes. This is just my 2 cents though. Good luck.

I've had a 8/8 success ratio so far using the Magic Mushrooms guide, which I think is basically the PF Tek. I used grounded up brown rice flower, and am having an average colonization period of around 18 days in less than ideal conditions (about 70 degrees F).
