gt lc to wbs jars ready? day 10 (or so) : complete. harvest pics!
    #16219432 - 05/12/12 12:00 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

been reading threads on what 100% colonalization is and looking at pictures, but am still having a hard time judging what 100% actually is.  jars always get pretty thready no matter what strain is used.dont know if this is good or bad. have spawned at this level of colonization in jars before with only a 1 1/2 to 4 ratio, and despite the mistakes, still produced. but still dont know if im  working with 100% colonized jars :frown: feel like a retard, but are these ready?

Do the jars have a little condensation in them?

What kind of people are these with such low self-esteem that they need a war to feel better about themselves? May I suggest, instead of a war to feel better about yourself, perhaps … sit-ups? Is it all on the same sides of the jars? Like they are all colder on one side than the other?
Moisture is a normal byproduct of metabolism, but visible condensation in jars isn't all that common.
I'd feel better about the jars if the condensation is due to outside factors like a chilly day.

all jars have the same amount of moisture in them from top to bottom. EXCEPT for the bottom. last jars looked exactly the same, no contams after spawning.

so these jars are not as white as most folks, but what do ya think? 100% colonized or no?

Did you already break them up and let them recolonize? If not, do that.

yup. day 3 they were at least 20%. shaken right after inoculation, and at 20%

Right. And then when they get to 100%, you break them up and let them recolonize before spawning.
Also with LC, if you shake well when you first inject, you probably won't have to shake again until they get to 100%.

wait, is that what consolidation is? kinda thought breaking it up after 100% would impede growth?

With cakes, you let them wait a week after 100%, that's consolidation.
With grain jars you break them up 24-48 hours in advance of spawning and let them recolonize.
A jar that's harboring hidden contams won't recolonize correctly.

alright. in the middle of ...life
but the 7 jars were put into a 66 quart mono tub 5 days after the last post on thread. today is day 10dont really have a choice to hide the tub from light as of today. thought about putting it into fruit, but not too sure that light by itself, will stop it from colonizing...so its going to sit a few more days.
was spawned to 8 quarts coir 2 quarts verm, 1 cup and a half of gypsum.

Yeah dont worry about the light so much, as evaporation of moisture, and reduced co2 levels are the 2 biggies when it comes to pinning

thats what ive been thinking too. but i have noticed out of the 2 batches of tubs ive done, both greatly reduced their colonization speed after the introduction of light. light by itself never caused the tubs to fruit, just slowed way down on finishing colonization.
from what i have learned from others from here, is that light can actually help with pinning if given a regular cycle from the beginning of colonization. i believe the reason i have seen slower rates after light induction is because i give the tubs light about halfway through colonization. and then light when i peak from there on out.
= irregular light cycles.
so this tub will finish. but i believe it has slowed down since i let light hit irregularly. next one light will be given from the beginning on a 12/12 light cycle

been reading a little bit. found out another reason why my tubs slow down a great deal, not because of light but co2. i tape the top of my tubs up with duck tape, and double line the top round of holes with micro pore tape. cover the bottom ones with duck tape. too much security could be my problem. too much co2?
it just has a tiny spot left to colonize, and it is moving, but at a snails pace and getting slower. one layer of micro pore tape in the future and no tape on the lid for sure.
want to start fruiting it, but cant till tonight. anyone think thats too long to wait? about 15 days in on this tub.

ok. couldnt fruit the tub till the 2nd. its been 5 days in fruiting now and this is the type of growth thats showing up. dont really know what im doing yet. but im pretty sure the weird growth is due to being choked out by co2. i have been fanning the tub at least twice a day since fruiting. one side of the sub has pulled away from the tub. even if i soak up the moisture on top of the sub with a paper towel, the next day there is more moisture on top, so i havent misted at all. is there anything i can do besides increase fae to help this tub produce better fruits?

alright! the sub was dry, no matter how much moisture was on top. so the weird growth in this tub is probably a combination of low moisture and to much co2. so i decided to mist the sides of the tub really close to where the sub had pulled away from the sides. enough to have about an inch of standing water around the  whole base of the tub. i know your not supposed to have any standing water in a tub. but it was DRY, and by morning it had soaked up an inch or so of water for 3 nights in a row. now im misting the top only when i open it to fan 2-3 times a day so far. this is what it looks like now  there is some crazy looking fruits in there. but at least there is fruits! i didn't cover the sides well enough from light and there is ALOT of side pinning. used 2 black trash bags around the outside, next time im going to tape up the bottom.

in the bottom left corner of the 2nd picture there is a cap that grew out of the ground without a stem on it, on its side....crazy.
i also noticed that the one spot in the tub that was un colonized was the spot that gave the most pins. ALOT more then the rest of the surface of the tub. casing layers produce way more pins in my opinion. you dont need a casing layer, but if you have one there will be more pins than without. it was the right half of the tub. two clusters that came from the only spot in the tub that didnt have mycelium on top of it.

Awesome man! I hope to be doing my first grow soon. Not using the grain method as you used but using the BRF cake method. Nice pictures. Glad it all went well!

everything i post is completely fictional.
This needs to be said: there never was a war. "How can you say that, Bill?" Well, a war is when two armies are fighting. So you can see, right there, there never was a war … People say to me, "Hey, Bill, the war made us feel better about ourselves." Really? What kind of people are these with such low self-esteem that they need a war to feel better about themselves? May I suggest, instead of a war to feel better about yourself, perhaps … sit-ups? Maybe a fruit cup? Eight glasses of water a day? -Bill Hicks

Hey orion, Where did you get the gt spores from?

Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.
