Black mold handling...

AFOAF recentley innoculated a massive jar (600ml) with the BRF technique. He'd given up up hope on this beast but after 3 AND A HALF WEEKS, it started colonizing and didn't slow down. However a big chunk of black mold about an inch wide became noticed. My friend just cut the growth out of the cake. You think he will have any luck ? There was no other mold in his cake, and it looks to be pinning.

Time will tell, but I would bet on the contamination over the mycelium winning the race. It is much better to do many small jars than a few large jars unless you are doing a spawn transfer. The time it takes for the mycelium to establish itself through out a large jar gives contamination time to start growing.

Cheers,
My friend could only get hold of these jars, he searched far and wide for half-pint jars but settled with these and didn't hold much hope.
