Transparent or opaque container for SGFC?
    #16213486 - 05/11/12 03:13 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Im going to use a 58qt container for my SGFC and I have 2 different ideas on how to set it up. Im going to use a fluorescent bulb in one of those clip on work light holders. I can either get a clear container and let the light shine into the closed container. Or, I can get an opaque container and cut a hole in the lid to rest the dish of the work light on and let it shine down into it. I think I would prefer the second way because it would keep the light enclosed so that I wouldn’t have to see the light all day. Is there any reason one way would be better than the other? Thanks

SGFC is Shotgun FC, yeah? Forgive me, I've been out of the loop for almost two years.

Anyway, if I was right, clear really is the way to go. The 12/12 light cycle works fine and these things need a little light. You could do simply clear lids if you wanted to restrict the light but I don't think that's absolutely necessary.

Use clear tubs.  Place the light very close to one side and above the fruiting chamber.  The light should be within a few inches of the terrarium, but not inside unless you're using waterproof LEDs.
