a rusty-looking border between colliding bursts of mycelium- or is one actually cobweb? (with pics)

hello, everyone. first time poster, long time reader here.

so in all my other jars, the mycelial "bursts" from the inoculation points are coalescing just fine. but in this one quadrant of this one jar, they don't seem to be getting along too well. i suspect that it's cobweb because of the grayer color and lack of a starburst pattern, but then on the other hand it doesn't seem to be growing any faster than the [good] mycelium beside it.

what freaks me out most of all is that "rusty" border.

what do you guys think? i'm prepared to turn this cake over to mother nature and grow it outdoors, but i wanted to hear some better experienced growers' opinions before burying it somewhere.

* disclaimer about the subject of this post: i know cobweb mold is also mycelium, but you knew what i meant

The texture looks a bit off to me. But it very well could be incompatible strains going on there.

In the interests of safety, I would probably reject that one jar.  You'll have no shortage of spores once you fruit those first cakes. Better safe than sorry.
