Okay...I don't really have room and time to do jars myself. I'm trying bags. But is there anyone that is reputable who does pre-made jars for sale? Tried and true?

Well I will start by saying this, if you are getting into this hobby, then MAKE time. How are you going to have time to fan and mist if you dont have time to prepare some substrate? Also, check the vendor list here at shroomery if your heart truly does desire to put in no effort into making your own substrate.

It's not really that I don't want to do it - I've got two kids and a house full of people. And it's easier for me to tuck things away quietly than to take on a huge project that everyone else gets to see. 9-6 straight-laced job.

LMAO I see, I see. Well in that case, I would go with outgrow for sure. But you should definitely find some time to make your own. It is a lot cheaper plus it just "feels" like you give love to the shrooms. Idk just my

I used a couple of rye spawn bags from Midwestgrowkits (referred by a sponsored vendor) and had no problems... In the process of harvesting my first flush. Good luck on your project!
Peace...

Trust me, man, I would LOVE to do that kind of set-up. Summer's about here, which means the kids are gonna be home from school all day. Right now the shotgun is in the second bathroom in the house that no one uses, but I imagine it's gonna bring up some questions. I'm hoping to find other culinary mushrooms that I can get them into, so in a mushrooming hobby, maybe they won't notice mommy's little special project. (So really, if you know of any really kid-friendly, easy kid-friendly mushrooms to grow, that would be cool info too.)
I'm hoping that with the tax return coming late, that I can invest in the tools needed to make some proper setup. I'm really digging some of the aquarium set-ups that I've seen, because it's something that can live in my closet without too much hassle, away from the crowd. I've never really used a message board like Shroomery (most of the old school ones I've used were really straightforward), so searching can be time consuming in itself sometimes. I would LOVE to see if anyone had knowledge about mini- setups too for people with limited space or necessity for discreetness.

Check out some of the mini monotub setups... Less holes to drill and can be a set it and forget it type of setup... I'm using a 66 gal tub right now, but I dont see why you couldn't scale that down to whatever size you need...

Check out the PmP setup. That's what I have set up for fruiting. It is hidden away in a cabinet.

Totally freakin' awesome. Thank you. :)
And sincerely, thanks for the kid-friendly tip. I'll have to see how that adventure goes.

You know... after all the years that I've been coming to the Shroomery, you have the best excuse not to make your own jars or bags of substrate!~
Not wanting to do them around kids or the family is a good reason to buy stuff!~ : )
I'm sure most of the Substrate Vendors in the Sponsor forum are reliable... but, I'd do some research on them if I was you.
Good luck!~

Man, I'm gonna be honest and up front. I look at it as what I do is my choice. Before I even got married, (my husband is like really, really straight-laced) even when we went out drinking as a couple, we traded off - there was ALWAYS someone sober. My old man isn't really thrilled by my ideas or my actions sometimes, but he loves me and puts up with me.
Now, years later with kids, our hijinx stays out of their line of vision. Well, at least mine does (he doesn't have any real vices, so I suppose it's mainly me). I generally go elsewhere for my craziness, but really, finding shrooms, even in an enviroment which is condusive to it occuring naturally, is really hard. People love their shroomies, so they don't really sell. And frankly, it's kind of a cool science project. But man, trippin' or gettin' stoned around the kids isn't really cool. I like to play, but I try to be responsible.
If it means I can't get the shit to grow stealthily, then frankly, I can wait because the kids come first. It SUCKS, but sometimes, parenthood's rough. And it's not trade-off, hands down - kids first.
But, you know, if I can pull it off and have minimal exposure...that would be kinda cool too.

Me and my wife take our kids to the grandparents at least once a month (usually twice) for a some . It is healthy for us to realign our motives and paths and have some AMAZING personal time
Drugs around young kids is not cool at all. QFT.

Out-Grow is my company of choice. Their whole rye berry bags are awesome for grain to spawn shit. Makes it really easy and takes care of all the head ache, basically.
Plus they're cheap as hell too.
