Confused about PF jars . 1/2 vs 1/4 pint

Must of over looked this a 100 times, but why do so many PF guides / teks say 1/2 pint but show 1/4 pint pictures?
Hope I wasn't buying wrong jars the whole time. Arn't those little short ones (4 oz) , quarter pint?

Most guides show 1/2 pint jars. They come in two styles, the short stubby ones (which are what you want) or the tall 1/2 pints which can lead to stalled and compacted jars.
I think the confusion comes from pictures without a size reference, these below are 1/2 pint jars:

1 pint = 16 fluid ounces
So yeah, 4oz would mean 1/4 of a pint.
For PF tek they recommend 1/2 pint jars, which would be 8oz... Normally they just say quart, pint, half-pint... People don't mention how many ounces they hold.
I've never even seen quarter-pint jars. Half-pints are pretty small.. I'd imagine you have 1/2 pint jars.
Also, if you already have some BRF cakes colonizing and your shotgun FC made, you can skip birthing them as cakes and just spawn them to a bulk substrate. That would give you several times the amount of shrooms you would have gotten from the cakes. There's a couple more steps and an extra week or two of waiting, but it's worth it.
Check out the PF tek videos in my signature if you need more help with that.
Check out the horse poo tek in my signature to learn about spawning to bulk. It's literally as easy as it looks in the tutorial and pictures and totally worth it. He puts his trays in an incubator, I just stick them in my closet. Then fruit them in a shotgun FC... You'd want to set the trays on top of something to lift it up off the perlite (i've used jar rings before). Wham, bam, thank you horse poop.

1/4 Pint are way faster to colonize, and 1/2 are a little slower but they generally yield more mushrooms even considering the size.
They both work though.

I use the 1/2 pint jars, it's a bitch they take for ever, but once they get going they get going and keep going, problem is hatching the damn thing just sitting on them forever!

I wouldn't even bother using something like a 1/4 pint jar. If you fruited that as a cake, there'd barely be enough nutrition to give you much of anything. 1/2 pint PF cakes from an MS syringe don't yield at lot as it is.
More nutrition = more shrooms, which is why bulk substrates are the way to go.
If you ever see a killer PF cake, they either used an isolate or got reeeeally lucky with MS genetics. The one time I fruited PF cakes, I fruited 6 of them and didn't get too much. The other 2 cakes I crumbled and spawned to horse poo and got like twice what I got from the 6 cakes... That was my firt grow. Since then it's always been bulk for me.

Apologies on my noob-ness. I have 1/4 pint (which I know for a fact) and I was confused cause they looked just like the 1/2 in the pictures. My store didn't even sell the wide 1/2 pints , just the taller skinny ones. I'll go pick some up though, thanks guys.
P.s. This also explains why I always had extra substrate. FAIL

MS syringes, meaning multi-spore, contain tons of spores with individual genetics.
Isolate means isolating specific genetics... Basically someone takes a really nice fruit and trys to isolate it's specific genetics. Once replicated, all of the fruits share the same amazing genetics. That's when you see flushes that are packed wall-to-wall.
I haven't done my own isolate work yet but I hope to very soon.
Use the search function to get started.

Will spores from the isolate necessarily produce similar genetics?

Nope, going back to spores is like resetting the genetics. When you grow from spores each drop of solution can create thousands of different strains that will fruit at different temperatures, have different visual characteristics, potency etc. When you isolate one of these strains (also known as a monoculture) you will get more consistent results in your experiments. The second you take a print and go back to it you are starting from scratch again.

No man. If you read my question, I thought guides used quarter jars but said 1/2 jars. Basically I didn't know 1/2 wide jars existed. Stupid me.
What's worse is I've been cultivating for almost a year and never bothered to ask anyone. And if anyone's wondering, I have like 40+ quarter pint jars.

Gotta google stuff like that, not just assume that you're smarter than everybody that ever did PF Tek.

Or just shop somewhere besides walmart.

you know I don't think it really matters if you use the tall or short wide ones hell I normally use full pints cause the yield is much better and only seems to add about a week or so to the colonization time
