LIKE COTTON IN THE MYCELIUM...
    #1620904 - 06/09/03 03:53 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

HI....

MY friend has put his PF -tek mycelium out of the cups 3 days ago , and his waiting the pins to appear.

But now he sees that the mycelium surface is getting like a cotton texture.....

He s giving the mycelium indirect light 6 hours a day and have no higrometer, so he has 2 inchs of perlite in the bottom of the terrarium and half inch of water , plus he sprays 2 times a day water. With this the terrarium walls are always with drops.

What means this cotton texture of the mycelium??is this a bad problem?? how can he fix it??

WELL, AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR YOUR ANSWERS..

TAKE CARE..BYE!!

It's hard to tell without pics. It could be a mold, but there's no reason to asume so. Check out the contamination section pictures at http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23418 . It could just be continued mycelium growth, probably nothing to worry about. When spraying your cakes, be very careful not to spray directly onto them; water droplets on the cakes prevent pinning.

Could you post a pic? Or, at least, describe "cotton texture" in more detail?
Check the contamination pics and see if it resembvles cobweb mold, thats sort of "cottony".

I had some of that shit on my cakes at high humidity. I believe the appropriate term is aerial mycelium. If you have that much perlite/water (the same amount i use) i would guess you have a 97-98% RH like i do. The mycelium should fill in in patches actually and look less cottony and more thick.
