First outdoor grow, with pics (in progress) 1

I thought i would post a real time experience of my outdoor grow, so maybe people can get a better idea of what to do off my mistakes and successes.
May 9,2012 Temp 10c/50f mostly cloudy some wind, a little brisk id say
This is my mushrooms space
Here is the area of choice, last years "graveyard"
first i built a box with no lid or bottom
then i made two loose layers of cardboard
got a bucket of hot water with whatever coffee was left from today also kept both my layers of cardboard separate ans a strainer to keep them separate and got a weight.
put in one stack of cardboard, then strainer to act as spacer, then the second stack of cardboard then the weight, let soak for an hour or two
i had eleven petris of Argentina that i wasent using anymore,
added them to magic bullet with a little warm water
and i got a kinda apple sauce like substance
dug a hole for the box about 5 inches deep so about 2 inches were above soil level added in first layer of cardboard then dumped the mycelium sauce all over it
then more cardboard
lastly i covered it with a dark garbage bag with some holes just sliced threw, and a container ontop of that witch i plan on using as a humidity dome for the growing part, i also put some borax and jam in some sort of small vessel so any ants will eat this, bring back to there colony and kill the colony, later i plan to add copper pipe around the box to keep slugs out.
borax and jam, i added alittle maple syrup but honey works also , theres recipes all over the internet for this idea,
tomorrow ill have my spawn bag preparation.
May 10,2012 Temp 10c/50f cloudy, really windy
heres what i did last night before bed
filled a bucket with hot water
added bird seed
went to bed
woke up and gathered my supplies this morning
strained then rinsed untell water rain clear
feel if its ready, no sticking grain is a good thing finger in
finger out, good to go
as you can see i never boiled or added anything, never did any witchery to it
prepared to seal bags for autoclave
sealed them
another view
well those were cooking away, i prepared to test the lc i will be using for this
the lc date
the lc , looks promising
for the recipe i asked TranscendingLife for some help on it , i dident want to use a full agar broth what i ended up using was one cup water, .7 light malt and .5 agar agar
got my 5 test jars and supplies ready for glovebox
proof
results 11 lc syringes and 5 test jars, the original get labed for re test as soon as these jars show the ok then bags will be inoculated, jars will later be uses for g2g in another grow
better view of syringe
as soon as bags come out of autoclave they get wrapped at the top with medical tape to prevent any air leak, i will show how to inoculate these when the time comes
another view
May 12,2012 Temp 18c/64f lightly overcast, but a really nice day, spring is starting to heat up
so here we are in our adventure when we see if the lc will give us good or bad surprises today i woke up to a good surprise, got some growth from the 5 test jars
a few more days and the grain bags will be done balancing the moisture out, and the jars should have some solid growth to support viable or not. tomorrow i will check on the outdoor bed to see if any mycelium is growing on the cardboard,
and if anyone wants to know A3-3 is Argentina 3rd sector, 3rd generation,
May 13,2012 Temp 22c/71f not a cloud in the sky , slight cool breeze, really bright beautiful day, right now i got the case of the fucking wonderfuls
so i went to check on the cardboard in the bottom of the box, and there was no growth i kinda thought there would be something, but nothing, there was a few bugs crawling around but mostly spiders, no ants were seen ,cardboard was still wet that should be a good sign of a good spot
i checked the jars today and they showed great progress, (not in the same order as before)
so i decided on inoculating the bags, i had eight 4 quart bags and one 2 quart bag, i will show how i did the first two
loaded my box
first i sprayed down my gloves with iso, and cleared the tape off from around the syringe
then i cleaned down the syringe i was using to inoculate
slide out "filter" syringe and insert lc syringe, and dispense lc
switch out lc syringe for the "filter" syringe again and retape
done
i will show progress of the bags when they show something worth showing.
May 15,2012 Temp 26c/79f ,fucking gorgeous out today, had to work but took an hour to enjoy the weather
both bags show some growth i have them labelled, so we can follow progress
also this is what i have going one bag with 2 quarts wbs and 8 bags with 3 quarts wbs (two bags for this project, 4 bags for an akira type bin outdoors, two bags for indoor and the two quart bag will be a g2g from my next bags)
also installed copper pipe around bed, that should keep out slugs
to be continued
May 20,2012 Temp 18c/63f off and sun so it kept getting warm then cold
bag one is doing pretty good theres good mycelium on the back also
bag two is going pretty slow, i might have to sub in another bag if it stays slow
all 5 jars are complete and awaiting something to do
ill eather add them to coir to spawn to the bed when i add the spawn and straw, or add them to a few bags to spend this shit up
May 26,2012 Temp 23c/73f got fairly warm, i broke a sweat at work today the weather has been going strong but rapidly changing from humid to not, raining to not, hot and sunny then cold, its been normal temperature around here but that being said normal temps here are all over the place
the bags are looking good and are around the same % done, time for a mix
after there mix
the boring part is almost over, i havent done anything with the test jars yet, one of my chinchillas has gotten a fur fungus and ive been stressed battling it, im kinda scared the rest of the heard will get it but theres no negative effects on health , just there fur.
June 3-4,2012 Temp 24c/74f , yesterday was very sunny and hot, today is slightly cooler with cloud cover
first i used the shroomerys spawn calculator to get a rough idea of what i wanted
decided on 20 gallons of substrate, so using a 5 gallon bucket i used 3 parts slightly composting straw and 1 part my "secrete" mix, i also only used 6 quarts spawn
did a quick pasteurization to kill off bugs
spawn ready
everything in
mixed
topped off with peat
covered with the sacks
im going to put some soil over this and seed with a mix of grass and flowers i think , or atleast flowers,
June 13,2012 Temp 28c/80f , the weather has been pretty funny lately raining then hot, then cloudy over and over again, witch is good. for kicks ill watch the weather app on my phone, every 10 minutes it says something totally different
so what i did was pick out some seeds and some grass seed, this will keep moisture close to the ground, and double as a herb garden ,
here is the progress after i took off the burlap sacks
lightly seeded and covered with more peat and soil
then i threw poppy seeds all over my yard

You put your petris in warm water to make apple sauce like liquid. Daa fu? Good luck and hoping to see progress soon
Also, if it isn't too hard, remember to keep track of the temperature

I plan on it, i've got a clone on agar right now, as soon as it i get it transferred once more to make sure its clean i'm get get these WBS jars going, do one or 2 G2G's then spawn to a tub of manure indoors and use that to spawn to some more manure outdoors. Pretty excited, will be first outdoor grow.
