Sausage lookin mushrooms?!
    #16199400 - 05/08/12 11:07 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

My first few pf cakes fruited beautifully but the others took about a week and a half to show any pins, once they did they have been pinning really well but growing EXTREMELY slow, i realise u must be patient etc but its been like a week and a half and my pin set has gone from a cm to 2.5 cm.  Last night i looked under a few of the cakes and found something i havent seen before LOTS AND LOTS of pins which were long and fat in body but hardly any head i presume these r mushrooms which havent had much light but just wondering is there anything else that could have caused this?  fgfc 75f fanned 6 times a day misted 3 one 6500 k daylight bulb ( im thinking do i need another one as im doing 19 cakes )

Thanks for any advice

pick up the cake and if it feels really light, then it is probabaly dry...you could set it in a saucer of water for a few hour or take a dropper and drop a much on the top as it will let you

Do the saucer trick or just dunk it for 12-24 hrs.

Yeah it's fine, a mutant or two is to be expected. You should dunk your cakes for 24 hours before fruiting. Heavy misting cannot make up for a good drink.

I dunked them all before fruiting  but they sat in there for a week and a half before fruiting

Well if you dunked a week ago, you have been misting, and if you have enough perlite then your cakes are not dry for sure. Just keep fruiting and they should mature fine, you have nothing to worry about.

I don't see anything odd looking. Sometimes pins look like that.
