So..I'm one week into my clandestine SGFC with two Golden Teacher cakes. I say clandestine because, for various reasons, I've setup in my attic using an old box, a hose routing cool air from my AC system, a small SGFC, and a plastic Folger's jar that I mostly fill with water then freeze to act as a heat sink during the day. So far, my temps, in the middle of a Texas day, stay below ~88 F. At night I open up and give it nice flourescent (~5500 or 6000K) light all night and into the next day. Temps settle into the mid/low 70s at night. And yes, I manage to find multiple opportunities throughout the day to mist and fan (in that order). Probably 4-6 times per day. As much FAE as I can give it.
So, we've got some action, and here's some pics. You should be able to zoom a LOT on these. Let me know how we're looking!

Looking good man. The temperatures are higher than optimal, probably due to the attic being really hot in the summer. Unfortunately, a block of ice is not very efficient at thermal dissipation from the surrounding air. I think as long as you don't let the substrate dry out on you in the heat you should be fine. Great job so far! Keep us updated.

Thanks for the follow-up. I think I need to really watch the RH and that substrate... I checked just after your post and my RH had dropped from 99% to 70%. So I misted like crazy and even dribbled quite a bit of water into my perlite. Since it's a SGFC, could I dip it in a pan of water to quickly rehydrate the perlite through the holes in the tub (just the bottom couple of inches...I'm not an idiot)? I'm thinking of running the incoming air hose into a can of water to bubble in some extra air/humidity.
Not real sure what else to do other than change my strategy a little bit. I had been misting then fanning, as well as spraying the sides of the tub. I've been coming across some conflicting posts about that today, several indicating that water on the inside of the tub is bad, but I'm gathering that that is talking about condensation. I've also read that you just want to spray the cakes and perlite. But then I've also read that moisture on the pins (again, I think referring to condensation) is a bad thing. Can somebody clear this up? I don't want to lose all this hard work...

Mushrooms grow outside after a heavy rain, right? Dunking cakes overnight doesn't even hurt the pins.
Check the dates of the information you read. If it is a couple years old, than it is likely outdated. I read a lot of conflicting stuff when I first got here too. Checking the dates is really useful.

Yeah...I'm a
Didn't even consider the mushies in the rain aspect. I guess we're looking to keep condensation from forming (and hence mildew and other nasties).
Anyway, most of the conflicting stuff I came across today was from today's posts, but I more than likely also clicked on the "Similar Threads" at the bottom. No worries, I'll get it figured out. I just needed some reinforcement. I got this , yo!

Also...just went back for a little routine maintenance, and my RH is back up to 99% where it belongs.

Here's my current pics as of about 15 minutes ago...
Got some rain the last couple of days, so temps are down to the 70s, and I took the SGFC and made the holes bigger (they were about 3/32 - 3/16", widened to full 1/4"). These guys look happy!
