Different looks for mycelium growing on bulk substrates

When I see pictures of colonized bulk substrates often times I'll notice the mycelium is either very rhizomorphic or very fluffy/fuzzy looking. I'm not talking about primordia and knotting, I'm talking about during/after colonization.
Is it better to have the ropey rhizomorphic looking growth or the fluffy looking growth? Any real difference?

rhizomorphic is better because it colonizes at a better pace.

That's what I thought. I always use 100% pasteurized horse manure and I always get rhizomorphic growth covering my substrates.
Horse manure is awesome...

you will usually see rhizomorphic growth on a little drier substrate and fuzzier looking growth on dampers substrates

It's more an indicator.
Rhizomorphic mycelium will often form on a less nutritious substrate such as coir or straw, or woodchips as opposed to sawdust. On such substrates, the mycelium tends to grow faster in search of food or moisture. Mycelium will go back and forth between rhizomorphic and cottony as conditions warrant. RR

good thing to know but would this mean something too nutritious would slow growth?
