That's a tough question to answer.  Here is a picture or two of my setup.
A monotub setup would be a cheap route to take.

I think you might be a bit optimistic with your 2oz dried expectation.  I only did the pf tek once, and I had 7 cakes that yielded, to the best of my memory, about an ounce dry.  But I have also seen some MONSTER flushes from single cakes, so anything is possible.

So, you're straining them twice?  Good God, man, why?

I should be more clear, the first strain is just to get the water they were in, it takes like, 20 seconds. I boil that water, and add the grain back.  If I don't with the amount water/grain in the pot, it would take far to long to get to boiling temperatures, and I worry grains at the bottom will burst.  Does that sound proper?  Always open to improvements to my methods.

Personally, I would never go that route, because it feels counter-intuitive.  After a 24 hour soak, I turn the burner on high.  This is for 8 cups of rye berries, by the way.  It takes about 15 minutes for it to start boiling.  At that point, I start the timer for 15 minutes and then strain.  If you heat up the water separately and then drop in cool, wet grain, your boiling water is no longer boiling.  It needs to be boiling with the grains in it for at least 15 minutes.  I have let it got to 30 minutes as well, and then I start seeing grains bursting.

After the water is returned to the grain, its at ~150 degress F.  it boils shortly after.  But hearing you just crank that burner up, I may try that method next time.  Thanks for your information.
