Do u have goals in life?

Just wondering....
Honestly right now my number 1 goal if i could say i have one is to work for a few weeks/months, buy an apartment and take it from there.
I guess my number 1 goal really is to get my own motherf-in place to live. I don't know if it'll be so amazing but I feel like it is key right now and from there I will see what comes next.
If I'm healthy by then music is also def something on my mind, maybe try making a band or something. Got a drummer friend interested to say the least.

Long term: to be happy
Short term(within a few years): go back to college
Bands are so fucking difficult to deal with and get everyone together on shit lol.
Getting a place of my own is also a short term goal of mine, along with losing my beer gut lol.

My #1 goal is to make a goal. I've been gonna get around to it but then I'd have to apply myself.

I know what you mean man. Making a band used to be an idea I had to go for a living with but as you say it really is difficult getting people together for a band and to be steady with it.
My drummer friend is dedicated tho. We've been jamming for years now, still two people aren't a full band and none of us really sing, at least I don't but are jams are hell of lot of fun. Would be cool to know a good singer who was interested tho lol

I always wanted to be a pilot, but my parents weren't supportive of the idea and I was too lazy to work to pay for it. I figure I'll end up inventing something cool, I just aced my first year of CEng.

Yeah our guitarist is basically planning on it happening lol. The rest of us just see it as a hobby because its so difficult.

Day to day goals: be happy by... keeping teh kitteh happeh. :3
Long term: finish college start my career in tree care find a nice apartment to have for a few years then save up for a house
As of now I only have a vague idea of what my future holds along with what I want in my future, so I haven't really planned many goals.
However, I do like the idea of goals and feel like I'll make some serious ones eventually.

there is no "level 5" for real guitar. playing guitar and getting to the highest level in a Guitar Hero game are two completely separate goals for two completely different injunctions in time.

no, it's just a shitty analogy. it just states your proclivity towards wanting to "perfect" your guitar playing... and being a "perfectionist" and especially with guitar, is FAR REMOVED from video games. plus, it's asinine.
have fun with your life goals.

"Real guitars" defined here by guitars that actually have strings and not five plastic colored buttons. The ones that don't look like they were made by Playskool.

WHOA, you can tell apart the difference? OOOOOOOO
PS: i was going to type "you know, he was talking to... ect" but i fucked up my, you know... typing. good call. you one-up'd me there!
but yeah, maybe you shouldn't try and compare the two "LIFE GOALS" as if one is better then the other; cause both are completely contentious to begin with; so to complain or prod at either or, is stupid.

Lol you're just ranting now. I guess.
I was distinguishing the two to help you out junior, sounds like it worked. Glad I could be of assistance . The Disabilities Center can't do it all for you I guess.
Haha ok I'll tell you what, it looks like you're really interested in debating semantics so let's do this. I'll practice REAL guitar for the rest of my life, and you can practice Guitar Hero and live in your mom's basement for eternity. We'll see who has a more meaningful life.
Sounds like you want to debate something just to have a point and an excuse to fit an insult or two into your argument.
Also funny how you were the one telling him to play "real guitar" earlier. Sounds like you made the same presumptive notion of a "real guitar" that you criticized me for doing.

i said BOTH are contentious.
besides, did i say Guitar Hero is comparable? no, you did. i don't believe there is a difference between "practicing guitar for the rest of my life" and "living, alone in my mom's basement based on some contention i have with beating Guitar Hero". both are equally time consuming and pretentious endeavors, when you juxtapose those idea's with the thought that one of them "elevates" you to some "grandeur" while the other doesn't...
now if you were saying that guitar is an awesome thing to practice, i might have felt differently about it. but so? what the fuck is your problem with what i said anyways?

no, you said "play to level 5 on some real songs on real guitar" and i said "REAL GUITAR A-HURR WAHT A COP OUT", as if, you know, disagreeing with you.
big difference.

I didn't have a problem with what you said. It started when you called my analogy "shitty" and "asinine" because of some negligible and trivial difference between wanting to "perfect" one's playing and being a "perfectionist", such as wanting to 5-star every song on Guitar Hero.
This was the comment that led to me calling you a smartass, and hence the argument.
You were probably offended by my animation, which was meant as more of a joke than an insult, but you took it a bit far in my opinion.
Back to your original point, it was you who apparently had a BIG problem with my original analogy because I didn't nitpick at useless details, and you overreacted to it bigtime.
And by the way, I don't believe that playing real guitar elevates one to some sort of "grandeur". I just believe that it is a better investment of time than practicing guitar Hero, which will become old and forgotten or replaced by a new sequel in a couple of years, whereas instrumental guitar has been and will continue to be largely used until the end of time.
If I behaved like you, I could call your assertion that I perceive guitar skills to bestow "grandeur" as shitty and asinine for the fact that its blatantly exaggeration. But I won't do that because it doesn't bother me that much.

oh well, live and learn. i didn't pick up on the smart-ass remark, no, just your account of me being the local douche. well, i think that's fucking' funny, so you go on thinking that... i'll just keep seeing all the "struggling perfectionist" post's and keep laughing.
PS: i wasn't offended. just telling you that your near pretentious effort of influencing someone to follow your perfectionism with playing guitar, was silly, and analogy; frightening.
maybe i had a point? who knows. i thought it was pretty simple but apparently not being a pretentious wad is over your head; which is pretty typical of pretentiousness.

i dunno, you said "get to level 5" pretty much comparing the two acts in ability and fervor. you're elevating guitar to some sort of "stats building introverted competition"; i think it's asinine. the grandeur associated with that sort of fervor is too.

How am I being pretentious? For encouraging someone to play guitar instead of Guitar Hero or invest more time in a certain endeavor?
It should be taken as a given that I am aware that anything I say/type is my own opinion, and not objective fact. I don't need to have a disclaimer in my signature that says "Anything that I say is just my opinion." This should be self-explanatory.
That person can do whatever he/she wants, the point is I am simply providing my own input and throwing my thoughts into the mixing pot. Do you have a problem with that?
And you can nitpick at details all you want, but it should be pretty obvious what I mean by a "real" guitar. If you really want to debate semantics, here is the technical English definition of a guitar.
"stringed musical instrument with a long, fretted neck, a flat, somewhat violinlike body, and typically six strings, which are plucked with the fingers or with a plectrum"
The Guitar Hero "guitar" has none of these features, so the jokes on you :hammer:
And the funny thing is even you told him that he should play "real" guitar instead as well. Way to be a pretentious ass

you keep saying that i said that, but yet, there is no where in the thread where i did; without calling it a "cop-out".
maybe you missed that part.
and yeah, i did have a problem with your opinion. it was superfluous and contentious; i wasn't concerned that it was your opinion. i was worried someone might take you seriously. so i voiced my opinion, confused the other guy, who thought i was telling him (like you) to play "real guitar"... that and getting you into a conniption about how you're "righteous" in proclaiming that he do one thing 'that's more real' over another less important thing that is by your logic "less real".
which is bullshit. what's less real is perfection or "a high level" with guitar. it's ultimately harder to perfect, then a game, and i get your point. but it's just not even the same thing. a game is a past-time that lasts a couple hours at the most, usually... learning guitar is a life-long practice that has more to do with then "leveling up" and "gaining skills". it's more about the joy of playing, and maybe writing songs. not being a perfectionist.
your goal is merely unrealistic.

This REALLY looks like you told him to play "Real" guitar. It would not take an idiot to interpret it that way.
And you need to stop acting like the thought police. "I was concerned that someone was going to take you seriously, so I stepped in to save the day." You sound like a stuck-up, self-important twat.
"Oh, it was my duty to make sure that people realized that what he said was just opinion. What I'm saying is really the truth."
Woe to the world if he takes my opinion seriously and actually decides to start playing guitar instead of guitar hero. Better pull out the ol' bucket list cause we're all doomed.
And once again, you are being a hypocrite. You criticize me for making assumptions (that instrumental guitar is more "real", for instance) while you do the exact same. You assume I view my endeavors as being more righteous than others, but nowhere in my posts did I say that. I merely said OP should invest more time in instrumental guitar, which should have been known as my opinion without me having to say it.
Not to mention that you sound like a self-righteous asshole yourself by acting like everyone else is ignorantly blinded by their own views and you have a more down-to-earth, objective perspective and that only you can see through opinion.

truly convincing display.
maybe you should try interpreting your own logic. i simply said:
Quote:
akira_akuma said: there is no "level 5" for real guitar. playing guitar and getting to the highest level in a Guitar Hero game are two completely separate goals for two completely different injunctions in time.
and you said after:
Quote:
Celestial Traveler said: You get the analogy. If not, then
to which i replied:
Quote:
akira_akuma said: no, it's just a shitty analogy. it just states your proclivity towards wanting to "perfect" your guitar playing... and being a "perfectionist" and especially with guitar, is FAR REMOVED from video games. plus, it's asinine.
have fun with your life goals.
then you got upset when i said it was "asinine". when you tried to explain away my opinion, and explain why it shouldn't count. i simply followed your logic...
and got this rant:
Quote:
Celestial Traveler said: Lol you're just ranting now.

Lol no. After you called my analogy "shitty" and "asinine" (which definitely sounds at least somewhat provocative when all I did was put a derp sign) I put this:
Quote:
Celestial Traveler said:
Quote:
akira_akuma said: [ you was .
And here I was thinking you were an intellectual prodigy for using big words like "proclivity" in your last post!
He quoted you, but he was replying to me? Funny how that works
"Real guitars" defined here by guitars that actually have strings and not five plastic colored buttons. The ones that don't look like they were made by Playskool.
Hope I cleared some things up for you
If you want to try to pass this off as "trying to explain away your opinion", then I can't help you.
All I pretty much did was define a "real" guitar. This was in response to your smartass remark that chastised me for being presumptuous, for making assumptions about what a "real" guitar is, when it's actually cut pretty clean and dry if you want to get really technical about it, as the definition of a "real" guitar is one that is stringed. Guitar Hero guitars are not stringed.
So I actually ended up using your "logic" against you, not the other way around . Your argument depended on nitpicking at small details (being specific about what a "real" guitar is) and labelling me as presumptuous and contentious for making minor assumptions, when in fact I was not being presumptuous at all but going by the actual cold-cut definition of a "real" guitar.

sure you were, you were being presumptuous by telling another user how else to "spend his time more productively".
and then a contentious meandering rant ensued when i told you that that idea was presumptuous and quite frankly preposterous. you were offended, so you tried to defend your point of view saying, "oh but Guitar Hero doesn't have strings it's not REAL guitar; which was my point to begin with MURP".
which wasn't even the origin of my opinion, anyways... being rendered effectively useless by your contention.

Once again, making yourself look even worse.
All I said was quote: "How about trying to five star every song on real guitar?"
How's that for being presumptuous? Putting quotations around something I never said? I never told him to spend his time more "productively." All I said was the above quote. And even then all I was trying to do was create small talk to welcome him to the Shroomery, since he just joined. But you had to butt in and act like a self-righteous jerk and rail on people for petit details in their dialogue (such as the perfectionist, 5-star idea not applying to real guitar).
And then you recreate this imaginary dialogue where I made all sorts of presumptuous statements, such as that instrumental guitar is more "productive", etc.
Not sure which reality you're living in, but if your brain or lack thereof lacks the capacity to perceive the same consensual reality that I am viewing, then I can't help you, sorry. Neither will aggressively overusing the words "presumptious" and "contentious."
Good luck

Yes, that's what I said. I never said playing real guitar (yes, I will refer to instrumental as "real" henceforth) was more "productive" than Guitar Hero.
Hard to believe that is the basis of your tangent that I made all of these claims that I in fact did not.
Saying he should try to perfect his guitar playing with a halfway witty comment "five-star"ring it does not imply that I view it as a more productive or worthwhile endeavor. This is where you are being presumptuous, and thus hypocritical.
Like I said before, it was merely a suggestion based on my opinion. And the main purpose was not to impose my beliefs on others (boo-the-fuck-who if I so happen to have strong opinions on guitar anyways, like it's as big of a deal as having strong religous beliefs), but to welcome him to the Shroomery.
And sorry if it offends you, but yes it is my opinion and that of others that it is possible to try to "perfect", or at least come closer to doing so, one's guitar playing abilities. One can practice and improve their tone, finger coordination, technique, and overall playing abilities. Your notion that the joy from playing guitar is sheerly abstract and miscellaneous is just that - your opinion. And to judge me by it and say that I'M the one overimposing my opinions makes you look like a conceited douche.

I explained this view earlier. I said that I believe Guitar Hero is less significant because they just come out with new sequels for different systems every year and the old one becomes forgotten.
This is my opinion, which seems to greatly offend you. If you hold a different view then feel free to live by it.
And a lot of that was me being a smartass back to you for your psuedo-intellectual rant against my "analogy" not applying to guitar playing because playing guitar isn't about perfectionism, which is just your opinion.

to try and perfect your playing and technique for the enjoyment of it is not the same thing as doing so for gain and boosting your personal assessment of your performance.
but yeah, i'm not being presumptuous by stating that the "ring" to your comment was towards the acclimation of your "skill", as it sounds exactly like you stated it. contentious, more still, was your reaction to my opinion. you thought i was talking about playing real guitar the whole time. i was saying, in my opinion, you were WRONG. then you called me the "local douche", which is just personalizing the situation and then also ranting afterwards, about what i wasn't even talking about... just to defend the view of your "Guitar Hero" opinion.
just sore opinions, really.Quote:

I'm arrogant for having an opinion
"to try and perfect your playing and technique for the enjoyment of it is not the same thing as doing so for gain and boosting your personal assessment of your performance"
This is just your opinion. By your logic, you're presumptuous and arrogant for assuming that one's personal assessment of their performance is separate from developing good playing and technique.
I'm getting tired of going in circles. Each time you fabricate a different "claim" I never made and try to use it to label me as presumptuous. You finally dug something up that actually helps your argument (me calling it more "meaningful" to practice instrumental guitar than guitar hero), but this does not make me presumptuous. This just means I have an opinion, and I'm getting tired of saying it over and over. And like I said, a lot of that was me being a smartass and giving you an attitude because of your ignorant rant over my analogy.
Even if I were being presumptuous, you would have no place accusing me of so as you have made plenty of assumptions yourself. For one, you have said the joy in guitar playing doesn't come from the pursuit of perfection but rather an abstract joy of expressing oneself. This is just your opinion. Some people's main source of joy in Guitar Playing may lie in pursuing perfect technique, form, etc. Just because that is not how it works for you does not mean that is not how it works for other people. Also even if I were presumptuous as you say, it wouldn't necessitate this long argument and the attitude you have given me.
Not only are you being presumptuous, but you are being a hypocrite and making yourself look like a snobbish buffoon by displaying this narcissistic attitude where it is your duty to inform others of the subjectivity of their own opinions and others'.
I'm just getting tired of saying the same things over and over, because it doesn't seem like it's getting through to you. I don't know you that well since I'm talking to you over an Internet forum, but I get a subtle sense that something about you isn't functioning properly.
I've said all I need to say, so there's no point in me posting anything more because I've already put it all out there.
You will probably reply with additional insults and labels - arrogant, presumptuous, etc., calling me presumptuous for my opinion that playing real guitar is more meaningful than guitar hero (which you were calling me presumptuous even before you were aware of this quote by making up fake dialogue on my behalf, such as that real guitar is more "productive.") That's fine, it's completely predictable.
Just know that , snoobish attitudes and Tyra Banks animations do not make you right in a given argument.

more psycho-babble.
i only followed your logic, after you started waiving my opinion as some kind of "rant".
it wasn't; you didn't really get the point... still you haven't. so waht, you don't like my opinion? get over it, i guess.
i've gotten over yours. it's just funny to see you try and justify your sentiment by saying that "i'm being presumptuous too!1" but to whom? and also, i never said you were pretentious for saying waht you said about Guitar Hero being subjectively "lesser" than "guitar". you just presumed i did, because the subject of the argument went in that direction... ironically after you got told that striving for perfection on the guitar was superfluous and a contention, in my perfectly honest and satisfactory opinion. you can think whatever the fuck you want about that, i just stated i thought you were wrong. oh and that the idea of "building on a commendation of skill or technique" was asinine. didn't say you were though. you took it that way, though, and thought i was telling you that to "play real guitar" wasn't to play it on Guitar Hero. i was saying there isn't a difference when you're going to play for commendation. there is a difference, however, when you're simply playing either for enjoyment.
so lets keep going...

Funny, because you're the one who had a problem with my opinion that practicing real guitar was a superior endeavor to Guitar Hero, hence the argument. Are you trying to be hypocritical on purpose?

Presumptuous - "characterized by presumption or tending to presume; bold; forward"
You are "presuming" that people find satisfaction from playing guitar, for the same reasons that you think playing guitar is satisfying. Do you understand?
If you don't then you are either mind-bogglingly retarded or just trying to avoid confessing that you were wrong.

You started bitching about it when I told Drew to try practicing real guitar instead. You took this to say that I believed playing real guitar was more "productive" and lead one to some sort of "grandeur." This opinion (which I never stated) pissed you off, hence your rant.

Show me the quote where I stated my opinion as a question. Also where did you question it, without insulting me and calling me presumptuous or contentuous?
You also called my original analogy (five-starring songs on real guitar) shitty and asinine on the basis that real guitar is not played for perfectionist purposes. So in fact, you were presumptuous first, by presuming that the intent to play guitar is never for perfectionist reasons. But it's ok, I know this is probably too many words for you.
Quote:
Quote:
maybe you shouldn't try and compare the two "LIFE GOALS" as if one is better then the other; cause both are completely contentious to begin with; so to complain or prod at either or, is stupid.
again. my opinion. not a formative opinion against you.
meet your maker.
Really? So you don't find calling one's actions "stupid" to be a formative, or even mildly provocative "argument" against them?
Sounds like I'm not the one that's stupid...
Quote:
PS: and by following your logic... i mean, i simply followed your line of thought. as logically as i could. it lead to argument. which is why this is so... tasty-cakes. cause you think i started this, that, something or the other.
i didn't do shit.
You just want to put the blame for your own logical fallacies on others.
Here's a short summary of this argument:
- Your main claim was that I was being presumptuous, even though you made the first presumption. This was that perfectionism doesn't apply to real-life music. Just your opinion. I have no problem with opinions, I have problems with hypocrisy. Here is the quote where you made this presumption:
Quote:
akira_akuma said: no, it's just a shitty analogy. it just states your proclivity towards wanting to "perfect" your guitar playing... and being a "perfectionist" and especially with guitar, is FAR REMOVED from video games. plus, it's asinine.
have fun with your life goals.
Then, you went on a massive crusade to fabricate quotes by me that I never made, such as that playing guitar was more a more productive hobby to take up than Guitar Hero, that it elevated one to a sense of grandeur, etc., when all I originally said was that a poster on here should try "five-starring songs on real guitar."
So yes, you did do something. A lot of things, none of which made any sense but all of which made you look like a common-sense deprived fool.
Refute each point, if you can (you can't).

and Celeste (i can call you Celeste, right?) all i said was "there is no 'level 5' for real guitar" and you took it to mean that i meant "you believed playing real guitar was more "productive" and lead one to some sort of "grandeur."
wow. so... leaps? leaps anyone?
ok.. so again... then I SAID.... *holds breath*

notice the italicized section... i stated what i thought that particular line of thought stated in and of itself; plus called trying to be a perfectionist on guitar, asinine. my own opinion. you got offended by.
i never called you this or that or the other thing... i said that about the idea that "to get to level 5 on real songs on real guitar" (is waht you said right? want me to get the quote again?) it was an opinion about a line of thought... not you, personally. so... again... more blow-hole.
i wouldn't resort to picking apart points... it's all been about the same point this whole time. your misunderstanding of the concept of sharing opinions is what leads to me calling this whole debacle contentious.
you still can't "refute" any of MY points... even if there is only one.
fucking daft christ. lol, where do i call you pretentious in the first two posts i made? no where. you just assumed that was my main "assertion".

Johnny Depp said: I just moved to an island of 70,000. I play guitar a lot.. The real guitar.. the one that is an art form. Not the video game one that is the same as getting really good at Halo or something.
I play for enjoyment all the time. I also play for commendation. There's nothing like getting up in front of an audience of thousands. But that is not going to happen where I live right now. So one aspect of my enjoyment of guitar playing is out the window. Also, it's impossible to make a living on the island playing guitar. Another thing I used to enjoy about playing.
There are many facets to why guitar is fulfilling for me. And it's always changing. Usually not so drastically as my recent move. But it's literally my life and my career. Has been for a long time.
My goal now is to seek out and find whatever opportunities there are here for a guitarist like me, and be grateful for them lol.
You guys talking about how hard it is to get a band together have no idea how difficult it is here. Population density means everything for musician opportunity.
BTW, this was an un-pretentious post.

Lol no.
Quote:
akira_akuma said: i said BOTH are contentious.
besides, did i say Guitar Hero is comparable? no, you did. i don't believe there is a difference between "practicing guitar for the rest of my life" and "living, alone in my mom's basement based on some contention i have with beating Guitar Hero". both are equally time consuming and pretentious endeavors, when you juxtapose those idea's with the thought that one of them "elevates" you to some "grandeur" while the other doesn't...
Quote:
akira_akuma said: sure you were, you were being presumptuous by telling another user how else to "spend his time more productively".
THERE. No more denial. Had nothing to do with this quote - "there is no 'level 5' for real guitar" you wrote those words exactly as I quoted them. You make PRESUMPTIONS (assumptions) about my views on playing guitar and guitar hero which I never stated. I never stated any of these things.
So you only called my OPINIONS shitty and asinine, instead of calling me that. You're attempting to hide behind technicalities here and bullshit aside, you know that that was a shot at me and you're just trying to cover it up.
Your thinking is very stupid, douchey, and scumbaggish. Don't be offended!
And I didn't say you were pretentious, I said you were presumptious, because you said that I was presumptuous somewhere early on in this argument. I won't, go digging through the quotes again to find it, but it's there several times. You need to be more accountable for what you say. When you get mixed up about your own previous statements then self-righteoussly tout your horn it makes you look like a douchebag. Just sayin'.

This is hilarious. You guys disagreed on whether playing a video game about guitar playing or playing an actual guitar is more pointless... so you each typed out dozens of paragraphs that nobody else seems to care about, just arguing back and forth on the same points and getting nowhere. Isn't that kind of pointless too?

That is a presumption. You say that guitar playing has nothing to do with perfectionism.
That's a poor quote but somewhere else in the dialogue you say something like- paraphrase "the joy from playing guitar doesn't come from the joy of having skill but from composing one's own music, playing, etc" or something like that, which is a presumption that people only play guitar for certain reasons.
Either way it doesn't matter

No...it's the same argument, I'm just talking about a different quote. You did say that the joy from playing guitar doesn't come from perfectionist aspirations but from a more abstract source.
You still made a presumption here, and we're still talking about the same presumption.
Let's leave it behind

what presumption? dude, there was none. you can call it a "technicality" all you want; there was no "presumption" in me giving my opinion in how your analogy sounded to me, nor in how i think it's wrong.

well, i could post this entire thread, and you still wouldn't get where you did. in fact, i almost re-posted several quotes almost amounting to this whole topic's size, in my trying to explain to you. so i don't think it's gonna happen... well, let me try one more time. i didn't start the whole debacle about whether "guitar is a life-long practice that has more to do with then 'leveling up' and 'gaining skills' " or not. i stated that opinion, but i wasn't really arguing about it, as it had nothing to do with original contention. which was with the fact that you couldn't understand that "comparing two life goals with one having more baring then the other, and the other with less" was facetious and just... in my opinion (which is the only comment i stated then...) WRONG.
so what? this whole guitar thing isn't a tangent?
lolQuote:
Celestial Traveler said: And once again, your logic is "I know I made a mistake, but he did it too!"
nope. it's "you think you can call me a douchebag for having an opinion, so i can do the same." even if my opinion was just an opinion, not an "option" like you were stating... sorta like the options you were giving AFTERWARDS (on another tangent i shall recall as best i can...) you said something about "you play guitar Hero in your mom's basement and i'll play real guitar and see who has more meaning in their life"? was that it? yeah. you said that. which would mean, whatever presumption you think i had made, would have been correct.
even though i made no such assertion.
oy.

Lol where did I call you a douchebag for having an opinion?
"comparing two life goals with one having more baring then the other, and the other with less" was facetious and just... in my opinion (which is the only comment i stated then..)wrong"
I NEVER said that one of these life goals had more bearing than the other. Presumption.
And just because something is your opinion doesn't make it immune to judgment. I don't know where you get this idea.
You sure didn't excuse my (we'll see whose life has more meaning when I play guitar and you play Guitar Hero) quote on the basis that it was just an opinion.
If you want to play games, it's my opinion that your opinion is shit. Don't get offended!
The whole point of pointing out your presumptions is that you repeatedly called me presumptuous, for saying playing guitar was more "meaningful" than guitar hero. The point is that you, too, made presumptions. We've gone over this.

Are you arguing that I said one held more bearing than the other? OR are you arguing that I merely compared the two?
I definitely compared the two, there's no arguing that. I never said that I didn't compare the two. I just didn't come to that conclusion.

Man you suck...
yeah, i did; and you called me a douche for it. presumptuousness to the max! just because i came to the conclusion to have the opinion i have, doesn't mean i am a douche or wrong. certainly doesn't mean you're wrong or a douche either, but you certainly proved that theory intrinsically wrong.
and PS: i said "main point", because you seem to have trouble grasping the origin of your contention.

maybe you didn't have one, at first. but you seemingly do now. maybe you can tell me whatever your contention was, in calling me a douche? i dunno.
my opinion originally had nothing to do with this argument... you simply wanted it pointed out, and i did. these tangents about what you thought i was arguing with you about is where mainly all of the arguing came from.
but gee, we'll have to agree to disagree on that one, eh? because to you, i'm presumptuous to tell my opinion, on what i think.

You had no business chastising me for being presumptuous as you were presumptuous yourself (we covered this, I posted your quote a few posts back). This was what you would probably call my "main contention."

i didn't. you just thought i did. again.
try and prove it. you won't be able to. you've tried again and again. i wasn't calling you presumptuous. never did within the time before you called me a douche and then the "opinions" descended into argument.
i might have to account for one of the various tangents that have been born with this, but not in my original statements to you. you just bore more resentment out the tangents you created for me, so you could back up your bullshit; which i don't even think you can see. because to you, this isn't ABOUT you... this is about me, and me being a dick.
oh well.. like i said earlier, live and learn.
now, i'm going to bed, knowing that you think i said you were presumptuous when i didn't, and all because i had claimed "you can't compare the two goals with the same proclivity as one has, because one is a practice, while the other is a past-time." which wasn't even my original statement... which was:
Quote:
akira_akuma said: there is no "level 5" for real guitar. playing guitar and getting to the highest level in a Guitar Hero game are two completely separate goals for two completely different injunctions in time.
a harmless statement.

I don't understand why the fuck you keep reposting that irrelevant quote. I never alluded to that quote. Please stop posting it.
You have made several statements which I have used as the basis for my arguments. Simply requoting an irrelevant piece like that doesn't make all the rest of your statements disappear.
You didn't use the word choice "presumptuous" but you said I was being pretentious several times. Many times. Please do not make me go back and dig through more quotes to show you this. Not only is there a lot of shit to dig through, but you quoted it several times.

nope. i said... and i QUOTE.
Quote:
PS: i wasn't offended. just telling you that your near pretentious effort of influencing someone to follow your perfectionism with playing guitar, was silly, and analogy; frightening.
and
Quote:
both are equally time consuming and pretentious endeavors, when you juxtapose those idea's with the thought that one of them "elevates" you to some "grandeur" while the other doesn't...
i said "near pretentious effort" and called the act "pretentious endeavors/ when you juxtapose those idea's with the thought that one of them "elevates" you to some "grandeur" while the other doesn't..."
so you know, tangents are tangents... they are sidelines, with a side view. not what was original talking about... which "APPARENTLY" (and i use this term very loosely) "started the argument".
which it didn't. your tangents did.

I had no tangents. What tangents did I have?
I beg to God PLEASE, PLEASE don't make me dig through all these quotes again. YOu called me pretentious several times, look through the posts if you don't believe me. You called me, not my ideas, pretentious. I assert it as fact.

No, you're just being obnoxious. Anyways I'm going to wrap it up:
1) You called me pretentious several times. You and I both know this. Even if you don't admit it, the proof is still there so I won't sweat it.
2) You made a presumption yourself (presumptuous and pretentious mean the same thing) that ""the joy from playing guitar doesn't come from the joy of having skill but from composing one's own music, playing, etc" or something like that, which is a presumption that people only play guitar for certain reasons."
For some reason you obsessed on establishing a "main contention" because you have formal debate rules stuck up your ass or something...just so you know, the above stated was my main contention, your hypocrisy in calling me presumptuous, yet being presumptuous yourself.
If you thought it was something else, then you greatly misinterpreted the entire context of this dialogue, and have a lot of work to do on your communication and reading comprehension skills.
Have a good rest

A discussion of "goals" on a drug forum. Well I can't see how that could possibly go awry.
But seriously, I think goals are somewhat overrated. Just be passionate about something. Be inspired. Enjoy life. This whole thing, this life, isn't a contest...it's an EXPERIENCE.

Or just die...

My goals in life are to travel the world (mainly south america, because I speak some espanol, and possibly new zealand and canada, alaska, norway). Then possibly settle down in oregon, colorado, or the Mississippi river bluffs where I own my own property and business. Owning a farm would be awesome too.
