What is the best Karo LC/Water ratio?

Need some advice my fellow mycologists. The last LC i made with karo I used 2 teaspoons karo/250ml of water. I got pretty good results, but my LC never got more than 60% thick with myc. I was wondering what everyone else uses as far as ratio of karo/water to get that nice thick myc filled LC?

Foggy LC is contaminated.

Sorry for my lack of better words, I meant thick LC not foggy. My LC was not really thick, only about 60% nice myc growth. I even let it sit for about 2 weeks then inoculated some cakes with it. 100% success and no contams. I just want my LC to be thicker.

Use Light Malt Extract if you're doing LC. Much better results and it adjusts to grains better than sugar based LC's.
GLC works even better than LC
And G2G even better than all the above.

I guess its more of a visual thing really. Thicker myc/LC ratio seems like colonization time would be much quicker though.

Thanks for the advice. I think I might try the malt extract LC method next time I make LC.

If you want faster colonization, forget LC. You want to be working with agar, it's easier and cheaper than it looks. Agar->grain->g2g will get you more spawn than you can use in less time than you'd believe.
But see my LC recipe linked above if you really want to do things the hard. way.

Thank you for the information. I'm still new at this. Started with MS syringe with BRF cakes, then moved to karo LC with BRF cakes, and now I want to do LC with WBS and monotub with coir after the success.

At best, LC is a side trip, a detour on the road to success. It's fun sometimes, but not actually a productive endeavor.
Grain LC, mentioned above, is the best way to handle liquid inoculation.
But agar work really is cheaper and easier than it looks. Newbs think they can't do it, but that's a myth. College freshmen all over the country work with agar in Microbiology I. You can do it if they can.

I was actually reading Agar's grain LC tek the other day. It seemed like it was wayyyyy better, but you have to have a starting point. Which is why i figured making a master LC first would be a good idea. I have some popcorn cooking right now. Going to inoculate with the LC I am making and then attempt a grain LC from it once it is colonized.

You have to have a starting point. But a syringe full of multispore genetics and potential contaminants isn't it. Also, popcorn is the worst possible grain to use for mycology. Literally any other grain on earth is a better choice.
You've searched well but found old, outdated info. A for effort, but your results are going to be C+ at best. Always reorder your search results by date, newest on top.

Again I appreciate the information and advice. I'm actually going to throw out the popcorn right now and find an alternative.

That's the ratio I use. The jars and lids I use for my liquid cultures don't have filters for gas exchange so I will leave a fair amount of room for a pocket of air so the mycelium has some oxygen to use.

Doc T, Do you use a laminar flow hood or a glove box?

No, but you should.
A flowhood is more comfortable but doesn't give you any extra abilities vs a glove box. You actually want a 'still air box', not a 'glove box' per se.

If it's already soaking you might as well prep it and use it. But go get some rye grain for next time.

Okay thanks for the advice. I'm going to try and find some rye grain. If not then I know that I can find WBS.
