Ambient humidity changes
    #16191248 - 05/06/12 05:23 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

So I have finally gotten a couple brf jars to fully colonize and am in the process of letting them consolidate.

I haven't quite figured out which method I will be using to fruit them. I was taking my time with this as the jars were taking their time to colonize. I was thinking about doing a martha, however my situation has changed and I need some advice.

I just got diagnosed this weekend with a second TB infection in my lungs. First one occurred in 2008. What I noticed then was humidity in the air did a number on me. Even showering was painful at times.

So my question is, since the strains I am growing require 90% humidity, what method of fruiting should I go with that will minimize the possibility of raising the room's ambient humidity too much. I can handle humidity, just not to the extent of a sauna, which I seriously doubt I will obtain with a mushroom grow.

I have a SGFC in my room and RH never got higher than 35-40%

That's good to know. Cheers

How about with monotubs?

I am contemplating buying myself a bit more time and busting up these cakes into a bulk substrate

people will advise against it but some do it.

I'd wait for a more experienced shroomerite as I have no idea if a monotub leak less humidity than a SGFC

Monotub isn't really going to limit humidity in the room, might even increase it compared to cakes in a shotgun.
I think your best bet is to use a SGFC in another room, or to grow sclerotia.

I wasn't going to be growing it in my bedroom. The increase of humidity is what I am curious about. If I do crumble them into a bulk, it would buy me some time for my meds to kick in, thus I'll be able to tolerate humidity once more

Electronic humidity meters don't usually work well in tubs- but often work well in room air.
Maybe you could use one to check levels and measure changes?

If you just need time, leave the cakes in the jars. They can sit there for quite a while.
If you can find a cooler spot for them, cellar or something, that will help too.
