Hey people, im back! i never left the growing but havent logged in, in a while, anyway, im posting for some help. I was doing alright with every step until i decided to try trays. i saw a post about this guy that got so many in each try that i said shit, i have to try this.. there was a difference tho, but dont know if its the answer.. here it goes.. here you dont get quarts or different kind of jars that easy, and i started working with BRF cakes, (which it went pretty good). so i had glasses of 250ml with aluminium as lid. in each tray i put "1 quart" (4 cups) i did 8 trays, so i had around 45 cakes in 250ml glasses. imagine how much could i get out 45 cakes and the trays didnt even give 1/3th of how much i could of got, they were so poor that i got disappointed but still took care of them and mist and fan, while i run them i had 4 cakes of south african transki ready, so i dunked, rolled and placed them in one fruiting chamber that had a tray in. by the way they were golden teacher trays and were placed in fruiting chambers with perlite on the buttom, so i put the 4 cakes in with a tray and they fruited perfectly, so i knew humidity and air exchanging were good. So what am i doing wrong? really dont get it, maybe because its verm cakes? by the way i mixed the mycelium with a little bit of verm and coir.
So here is the next step.. after knowing what i did wrong.. hopefully.. i found quart jars and rye grain, i ordered 32 quarts, so i have monotubs in mind, with 5 or 6 quarts in each tub. with 6 quarts in a tub i cannot see in my mind small number of grams, i think that not much things can go wrong other than contamination (ive never had a big problem with contam) so what are the risks of going bad with tubs.. since ive been down cause work of months have just failed.. and the thing is that im doing this on a room (not in my house) so it needs to be a method that doesnt involve misting and fanning, of course at the age of fruiting, visiting the room once a day to check.. so what are your recommendations?
Ok so since ive been working with BRF cakes, i have the idea of working with rye grain but this is going to be the first time. i dont have pressure cooker, so i made 3 quart jars with a normal closed pot for 2 hours. now they seem waterless, they grain looks dry, havent inoculated, but they look dry so i dont know what to do.. there is this other 2 quarts that i didnt pressure cook, so here are some photos, that will show you the difference, but tell me if the ones pressure cooked that look dry would still work good...?
Please i want to start as soon as possible.. here are the pics, and your help is a lot of help know. thanks!!

LOOK HOW DRY THEY LOOK, WOULD IT COLONIZE ALL WITHOUT PROBLEM?

Your rye does seem to look under hydrated, but that doesn't really matter, because you can't get away with boiling rye, it HAS to be pressure cooked if you expect it to remain sterile.
And I'm not really sure what you are talking about as far as the way you are making your trays, but just breaking up a cake into a tray and expecting better results is just futile. The whole point of doing a tray rather than fruiting the cake is so you can spawn the cake to a bulk substrate, as in h-poo or coir.

This.
Dont work with grains unless you have a pressure cooker. If you dont want to cough up the money for a PC, then stick to doing PF cakes.
As for potential problems to look into with monotubs. You want to make sure you have a couple holes in the bottom to drain out any excess water that may build up from misting. This will prevent any contams from forming in standing water.
Another thing to watch is the RH and Air exchange. These are the two of the most important factors in a fruiting chamber. For air exchange I usually do 4, 1'' holes stuffed with polyfil in each tub. I also manually fan the tubs once or twice per day
Other than that, monotubs are pretty self sufficient and dont require much work at all. That's why they are the preferred growing method.
The advantage over cakes is the obvious increase in surface area
