yeah the main reason you boil is to get the seed hot enough to basically steam dry, also to get the moisture/texture of the wbs just right.i like a lil bursted grains but too many could cause trouble.

@ The Influence: if your thinking theres much gypsum left after your soak and simmer your mistaken, add some to it still.
Gypsum isn't really necessary for seeds. And if the seeds are not rinsed too much, there should be enough calcium left.
Also, it doesn't matter to me if the seeds are still wet, after they drip for a few minutes.

Mr. Wilson said: im gonna let this seed soak overnight maybe -steam it tommorrow-then to the PC---what did you get out of reading all that info---steaming-boiling before PC necessary--read RR's take on it and he said it was uneccessary--what is your take??----and another thing to fellow noob--how does it feel to read all that stuff and get a headache just to come back out of and start asking round bout it and be told that its wrong--i did my research too man
I think Colonel Sanders says it best "there is more than one way to skin a cat", but in all seriousness I just look through detailed grow logs and look at the successful ones and compile that information in my notes. I do get most of my notes from RR, the man has been doing this for a long time and runs a mushroom farm, so if he says it's unecessary I would take his word for it. And I wasn't saying that you haven't done your research, I see no problem in asking different peoples take on it. For every person that gives a vauge answer with a "use the search function" punchline there are usually a couple more willing to share their methods in detail.
Thats what I am going to do; rinse the WBS till the water runs clear, let it soak for about 12 hours, boil for 10 minutes or so, then let sit in the strainer for awhile to steam dry a bit then load up my jars and PC.
Oh I don't know if you got any coir but if you are a looking I found 3 bricks at petco for $10 last night. Same brand was $15 on amazon plus $8.75 for s&h. Was going to order it too, till I was eating out and seen that petco and thought they might have some.
