Any other backpackers in Oregon?
    #12673521 - 06/02/10 05:03 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

I've finally got all my gear and have some trips in mind, it'd be nice to meet up with a couple of y'all if you are around and go on an overnighter. Sort of like a backpacking Shroomery gathering.

Down here in southern Oregon there's a lot of wilderness and good trails that I know, haven't checked out northern yet but I'd be interested in coming up there if other interested parties are closer to the PDX area.

Sound like fun to anybody?

I'm in Idaho but I'd be down to go on a multi-day hike in Oregon. It's still too wet and cold here in Idaho for a hiking trip.

Damn, didn't know there was this many other southern Oregon folks here. I myself live in Ashland usually, or can be found somewhere in eastern Oregon. It'd be cool to meet some of you sometime. I'm out of the country for now but will be back in a month or so. I love some Oregon backpacking and have done a fair bit out on the east side. Any of you guys ever been up Mt. Theilsen? Right outside of Crater Lake...it's sweet! I'll be around sporadically this summer and consistently in the fall and would be down for a trip sometime. Just reply to me in this thread or my journal somewhere because I can't receive PMs.

I'm in Coos Bay, over on the coast. There's not a lot of long trails over here so this summer I plan on hiking around the Rogue / Umpqua areas and wherever else within range.

I have a water filter, cooking utensils (a few lightweight pots and pans and what not), you can build yourself an alcohol stove. So really the important things that you would need are a pack, sleeping bag ($20 synthetic ones from department stores should work ok for most of Oregon in summer), and some other odds and ends.

Only recently did I finally start building up some gear of my own but it's coming together.

Well I haven't picked much the past few years, but I have glanced at some spots I used to pick actives at around here, and haven't found but a couple mushrooms each season.

Probably due to the local kids picking overpicking, they're pretty well known spots.

This season I have a vehicle and plan on doing some real mushroom hunting!

My girl took me to the lewis and clark trail just outside PDX.  We ended up taking a trail that we should not have and found ourselves climbing a rock face lol.

i live directly below the drift creek wilderness near waldport and my spring water comes from the unlogged old growth watershed. i don't even have to use any filters on my water, and have as much gravity pressure possible. it's heavenly, except for the bears and raccoons. also, not far from me are the rock creek wilderness and the cummins creek wilderness. i thought you lived in bend since you were asking for a ride down 97. i don't do much hiking anymore recreationally(camping), but i do hike into places for digging rocks and mushrooms. i camp with my cats nowadays and that means hauling a trailer.
