Hmmmm well I have not seen anyone suggest this yet, and I don't know if it would work as well, but coco coir is used for bulk grow, it might be a good stand-in. Like I said, I have never used/seen it suggested, but it seems a good organic, fine substrate, like verm, to mix with the BRF. Know anything about that Doc_T?

People mix coir with... vermiculite. Verm has unique properties, there is literally no other substance on earth that is equal to it.
OP, what's your zip code?

id suggest ordering online. where i live only 1 store carries verm and its the fine grade, works perfictly well for me. but yep online go get a prepaid card if you dont have a debit or cc. unless cash is a factor then scrimp and save and proceed with the precursing suggestion
-------------------- im not r kelly i do not create evidence, and my experments are purely theoretical i refuse to post pics of any grows so ethier take my words at face value or simply choose to think what you already do. please note its my experiance that i dont think like others so please be patiant when i have to explain something it may make no sense to you but it does to me

I'd suggest NOT ordering online. It's available locally.

I live in Arkansas believe it or not. It's not that they dont sell it, like I said they are sold out everywhere. I called the local farm supply co-op, Walmart, and Home Depot. All of them usually sell it, but are out. Would that not be something weird to order online?
I haven't called the tractor supply or the hardware stores around here though. I didn't think about them. I've been at work all day, so I'm tired.

Call up those stores and ask if they're expecting a shipment anytime soon.
If not, ask them to order you some. most of them will gladly do it.
Got an ace hardware in Arkansas? that's where I got mine. they ordered half a pallet for me even though I only needed one bag. Took less than a week. Same for the hard to find wide mouth half pint jars.

Walmart will usually ship for free to a store location. Even though they are the evil corporation.

This ^^
Also OP if you have an ACE hardware they carry most cultivation supplies you will need: gypsum, lime, verm, perlite, jars etc. They will also order and ship to their store free, and they are not evil like walmart.
I have read that perlite can be used in place of verm but is far from optimal

Yep, Ace Hardware has it. I went to Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, local garden farm supply places, and everyone was out like OP said. But Ace Hardware had some....surprisingly.

Maybe a filtered lid instead? Unless you're talking about the dunk and roll portion after birthing.

HD has big bags out in the garden section, but not near the compost. If you ask them they'll take you right to it. Never seen big bags at Lowes, and the little bags are seasonal there. Avoid Walmart on GP, but they don't carry verm anyway. (around here at least).
Local garden center though, they'll have it. Or they'll get it for you. But more likely they have it and you didn't see it. Did you ask? Always ask. I like to ask the girl with the nosering, she generally is the one who knows what's what. If they don't have a girl with a nosering, ask the lady that looks old enough to be your grandma but still likes to get a little freaky. She'll know too.

This thread has been closed.
Reason: Vermiculite is easily available at any garden center worthy of its lease. As with all supplies, one must find the right stores.
