I thought this one was a gallerina, Im not so sure now. Its growing on dung, gallerina's grow on wood. Colors match, stem base too. So do the gills, but the spores dont have the gallerina rust color??

Nice pictures! Galerinas grow on wood and have rusty brown spore print. These look like Psilocybes to me. Did you make the spore print?

nope, see the spores on those caps and in the gills. I know what the gallerina's characteristics are, did you read my post? I hope you are right though, that would be great! I should prolley get my glass out to print them huh?...FYI I have them growing on the backporch as you see here. In a bucket lined w/plastic. Growing very well too I might add. Any idea of what species this is? Here is my field guide with full color photos of all species, I can tfind it

gorgeous pics indeed- definitely not a Gallerina.
Most importantly- where are you located? location is key in trying to ID if you don't even have a sporeprint.

Yes, I read your post. I just wanted to confirm that Galerinas grow on wood. You can't judge the spore print color just by the gill color, you'll have to make a spore print.

I disagree on that one. How do you figure? I admit you can see them better, but I can surely see spore color from looking at caps and stems of sporolated species. Ill get a print and check the microscope.

Midwest- ok but still not quite good enough.........
Although most bordering states have the same mush- they also have diff ones as well due to their changes in weather, etc..

Well cmon man! First of all the pic quality isnt there, second you dont have visible spores. I never said I can see all spores, but when they are sporolating heavily enough to deposit a layer on the surrounding caps and stem you can see the color in most instances. Joker

see the spores on those caps and in the gills
Unfortunately, that doesn't always work.
What color are spores on this mushroom? They're not orange.
With dark-spored genera, often the gills are one color when they'er young, then they'll eventually turn the color of the spoers as they mature.
With pale-spored genera the gills can be pretty much any color.
The color of the gills often matches the color of the spores, but you have to be careful to not be fooled. With Psilocybe coprophila the gills are "grayish-brown becoming deep purple-brown or black" [Arora].
One of the key features lacking in those mushrooms (other than habitat) is a ring on the stem. Galerina autumnalis has a very noticeable ring.
Incidentally, the mushroom in the link above has white spores.
Gary Lincoff's book is a fairly good field guide. But make sure you check the description at the back of the book against your specimen before you conclude that you've found a match.
Happy mushrooming!
