I need to fruit these while staying under the radar so i'm making a fruiting chamber in a tiny compartment behind my drawer that's about 15"x 8.5"x 5". My plan is to line the walls with cut up rubbermaid boxes and put moist verm on the bottom. Then the cakes will rest on top of this on a dry platform. I'll have a small lamp in there which will stay on for 9 or 10 hours during the night. I'll air it out 2-3 times a day, like with the poor mans pod, because there probably wont be good gas exchange. So if i'm missing anything please let me know.

Looks good to me, use a led light since mushrooms dislike too much light and heat combination.
I can also suggest to grow some brown capped mushrooms (edible) for a while then add cubes to the fruiting area, people will not suspect unless they are versed in the art.

False mushrooms don't dislike light... And to the op I don't think this is a good idea at all ..how many cakes are you going to be working with ? And the light needs to be around 6500k and a daylight type.. and verm is not going to give you the results your looking for imo use perlite ..

yes, I would suggest another method.
I don't know your situation but if you need to be so stealthy it might not be a good idea to grow, especially if it means cops or being kicked out.

Why isn't this a good idea, is it just the vermiculite? I'm going to be fruiting 3 cakes.

I just don't think its a good idea ... Do you have a closet that you might be able to use ? And 3 cakes what I would do is go to dollar general ( if you have one around) they have clear plastic bins about 14"long 7or8" wide and about 6" deep make yourself a mini sgfc and put it up on a shelf in a closet . I'm not to sure if you would need to change anything major about the specs of the sgfc (besides the 4to6" of perlite) but I think RR is on right now and maybe he could tell us if it would work with the holes being 2" apart or if it needed to be modified ?
