Hmm are these safe to eat?

Hey guys
First cake ever has actually made it into the FC and is pumping out these guys. My concerns are there are a few small patches of a orangey/browney dry patch (contam or metabolites? I dunno, close to where the shrooms grow. Also they looked beautiful up until night, but after last nights tanning session, they are black on top think I burnt them... Doesn't look healthy.. I'm giving them 12 hours of light a day with a light a 24W light, that sits outside the FC the distance from the bulb to these shrooms is probably about 2/3 of a foot.

Spores. Wipe off and chow down. Eat the whole mushroom, but brush off the verm flakes.
Kickass job, you should take a spore print or two.

Next time if you don't wait to deal with the spores getting all over and want a better print. Pull the fruits either when the veil breaks or alittle after

That orange patch under your thumb in the first pic sure does look like some kind of mold to me.

Agreed, the orange patch looks weird. Oh, and put your cakes on foil so they don't grow into the perlite. Still, them's some purty mushrooms.

If that orange patch was on a block of cheese you'd slice it off and get grillin', right?
The cake is probably history. Those mushrooms look delicious.

thanks fellas! yeh really excited made it this far.
Have just set them down to make prints and cleared everything up. One thing that has concerned me is I found a green patch on the cake on the exact position where I occassionally held the cake, while doing this, in fact if you look at the pic at the top of the thread u can see it under my thumb. Think this only popped up in the last 36 hours.
I took the cake outside and opened it up, it was only a surface contam, inside the cake looks fine, I was suprised to see it wasn't whitish inside! Does mycellium never go inside that much?
Is this cause for concern eating wise? And could it poss contam my prints?
As you say with the cheese analogy, probably good to proceed? ha//...><

Did you consolidate it for a week after you saw that it was fully colonized on the outside?

That actually could just be some bruising. Mycelium bruises very easily even from gentle handling. As long as it does not seem to spread any, you should be ok.

hey guys, just munched it down a few hours ago w a friend and it all went ok. Was only 23g between us, so haha yeh, not enough, got some nice visuals walking along the beach, and the rocks/boulders e.t.c looked really nice. Grass looked great as well.
Time to brew up some more :-) got about 5 decent prints from it
