My cough has gotten rather severe at times. I cut out blunts on 4/22 and decided to stop smoking joints too because there is no way that is good. So I bought a bong. The same shit is sill happening. It is like brown spit almost black looking at first glance. What is this?
If its brown, and you don't smoke cigarettes, it's because the nicotine has left you body and the hairs in your lungs are able to move the shit out. Blunts have nicotine because they're tobacco, nicotine paralyzes your cilia. Cut out the smoking for a few weeks and your lungs can clear out the tar and whatever other shit you've got in there. If it were yellow I'd be worried, but brown is just from the years (or months) of nicotine and smoke.
Don't worry whatsoever, I actually had this issue a while back and looked it up pretty thouroughly. Cannabis is a bronchial (fancy anatomy word fer airways) dialator -meaning it opens up your airways, right down to the terminal bronchioles. That allows for the resins/tars and any particle matter to be expelled (as opposed to say tobacco, which is a bronchial contrictor, keeping tars, etc. trapped in the airways and lungs). Any time you smoke a dried plant, there's bound to be mucus produced. So you (and I :hehe:) are coughing up mucus+resins and any particles that would otherwise stay in our bodies.
So really, it's a good thing. It's your body cleaning itself out. Vaporizers and edibles are excellent ideas, but otherwise, just try to open up your whole throat/airways when coughing and learn to cough effectively, so it gets the gunk out without causing pain or unneccesary damage.
I had the same thing for a while... plus pains in the chest and occasionally spots of blood. Swapped to a vaporizer and haven't had any trouble since. So if you insist on continuing with cannabis, think about investing in a vaporizer.
