The MOST AMAZING Co-Incidence that EVER happened to me/u
    #1617147 - 06/07/03 07:25 PM (20 years, 10 months ago)

seems like people are into coincidences...
Something relatively (at least for me) amazing happened to me around 8 years ago.
I never shared it with anyone due to silly superstision. Having
changed over the years, I've realized that no matter how seeming
amazing it was, on a bell distrubution curve, with billions of us monkeys
inhabiting the planet and on a long enough time line things like this WILL
happen fairly frequently. I no longer think the event was a miraculous
sign of cosmic intervention, but rather just an event that stood out due
to it's unusualness and due to the importance I associated with it
(many "coincidences" happen to folks every day, but if the coincidence
has a significant impact on your life u'll likely associate more importance to it).
zo, without further adue...here it is...
about 8 years ago I saw lottery numbers in a dream. I saw 6 distinct numbers
which I remembered upon waking up and wrote them down. In the
country I was living at the time, there was no such thing as a lottery.
About a year later, I visited London. I remembered my lotto numbers and
filled the weekly lotto. I got 5 out of the 6 numbers (or maybe it was 4+bonus
number). In any case the probability of getting those numbers was something
like 1 in 1000, and I guess that needs to be multipled by the probability of
seeing lotto numbers in my dream (if I remember my probability corrrectly,
distinct events need to be multiplied - but I havn't really thought this through).
So that was fairly amazing.
Another fairly unusual thing that happened to me was that I once obsessively
prayed to God for a black out (i.e. town electricity) as a sign (yeah, I was a
real nut as a kid ). After about 5 hours or so of contemplative prayer the
lights did in fact go out. However, I later calculated that it was the hight of
summer and in the underdeveloped country I lived in at the time the lights
would go out about every other day in any case. So the probability was
fairly high. I've had a few more uncanny things happen to me over the years,
but it all comes down to this... can I rely on these things ? NO. Can I repeat
them at will ? NO. Well, I'm glad I shared it with u folks. I havn't told anyone.
I feel comfortable with the folks at the shroomery... we're one big happy
disfunctional family

There's a story where I'm from about the college kids who forgot about an exam and couldn't study so they smoked pot all night long dedicating the weed to Ular (God of snow.. snowboarders and skiiers like him here in the mountains). Anyway, Ular came through and it puked so hard the college was shut down for the day and the pot heads could study. True story.

yup, I'd need top know how often the blocks lights go out on avg (i.e. 1 in x days)
and I'd need to know how often u get up to pee... which I'm dying to find out
But yeah, on a statistical curve it's all possible to someone or the other. The lottery
incident left a strong impression on my mind (I think it would on anyone. But when
I realized that it was not something I could repeat at will, or even reliable (I saw
other things in my dreams which never happened and admitedly others that happened exactly as in the dream, but nothing consistant), I realized it was indeed
"just a coincidence"...  sigh... and all this while I thought cosmic forces were
lookin after me, after all they did align all those stars for some reason...

its strange that you bring up coincidencia because I was just thinking about this the other day

A lot of what seems to be coincidence is really simple statistics. For example, ask a classroom with around thirty people in it to tell you their birthday. Almost every time you do this you will find two people with the same birthday in your group of thirty.

This is not the most amazing synchronicity in my life, but the first one that turned me on to synchronicity. The MOST amazing one is a Sacred Reality which I do not wish to make into a public viewing.

In July 1973, my friend Ed and I took my little Fiat 850 Spider on a trip around the National Parks. He decided to stay in Yellowstone and I drove back to NJ alone. A few very unusual things occurred. One was being asked at a rest-stop if I had any pot (which I did - hidden in a jar of wheat germ) but they were strangers so I lied and said no. Then they asked me if I wanted to buy any speed, which was a blessing 'cause I was all alone driving long distance. I bought only a couple (not knowing if it was speed, but it was) and went to pee, which only took a couple of minutes. Now, on route 80, in Kansas, one could see many many miles in either direction. The guys who sold me the much-desired speed, were in a bright orange VW Beetle, which could not be seen in either direction, or at the rest stop. They were gone in 2 minutes - impossible. I believed they were angels at the time! Anyway, the most memorable event was as I was leaving Cheyenne, Wyoming. I was listening to the song Jack Straw, by the Grateful Dead on my old 8-track, and just at the moment when my car rambled over the railroad tracks at the center of town, where I was surrounded by boxcars with the Great Northern RR displayed all around me, came the lyrics: "...the Great Northern - out of Cheyennne - from sea to shining sea..." I couldn't believe the impact of this synchronicity!!! There were several other impossible events that took place on that trip that I still reflect on, but I became a Jungian from that experience of synchronicity, which led me to I Ching and Taoism - Jung's sources. That was an interesting stage in my spiritual development.

yup, I agree, but the lottery numbers were rather impressive, since it was
a prediction and not a co-incidence, and the probability was easily
calcuated and was fairly high (over 1 in 1000)...
in any case, I no longer attribute it to divine intervention - as someone
put it quite elequently... "shit happens"...

im seriously questioning the Christian religion. and after talking to someone abouit it the time I checked(how long I was on) was 3.16. which is a bible verse and reminded me of ramone(hahaha i spelt ramones instead of romans)

"Romans 3:16

Wherever they go, destruction and misery follow them."

and the person i was talking to was helping me open up my mind, etc. pretty damn freaky :P

Mark: Thanks, what beautiful stories!

Recently, I was at a neighborhood bar that I frequent often. After entering, I began feeling so drab that I couldn't bring myself to get a drink. The next day I found out that not but 30 minutes later a man entered the bar and robbed two of the customers at gunpoint. One was shot in the hand!

Those there who had no religious instruction and led blameless lives would think of their awful luck to be anything more than a product of a life in a lower-class inter-city neighborhood. And honestly, imho, good for them!

But, I consider my "instinct" to leave the bar as one of many summating experiences within this Spring to have lead to remarkable acts and insights outside of what my mind could logically forsee.

Relinquishing control to unkown factors becomes less scary once we learn to hear our hearts and trust the messages that we receive. From such experiences our lives grow more meaningful and fruitful in ways that we hadn't ever imagined.

Oh yeah, I remebered another co-incidence, althought its far from amazing but at the time was pretty shocking. It was raining and my brother is afraid of the dark so I go relax, this is what it'll be like....and I go around turning off all the lights and everything in the house while he freaked out, then I go, 'itll be like this!' and I turn off the light for like a second and he screams so I flip the switch cept no light comes on...turned out the power went off that one second when all the electricity was off so there was no way to know....strange

Reminds me of a coincidence that author Tom Wolff wrote about the ConEdison blackout in NYC in 1965. A kid is dragging a stick across a fence as kids will do, then takes a whack at a utility pole. At that exact moment, NYC goes dark! Meanwhile, the terrified kid thinks he's responsible for the blackout, runs home and hides.

Yes, I'll be in Columbus, OH, though I'm relocating within the city to my own house. Things are likely to be in disarray. Whether in my own home or out on the town, it would be a pleasure to meet.
