I use a Katadyn Vario on longer life mode. The water still tasted like slime so I got a SteriPen traveler too.

It is certainly not illegal to live in public lands. Just no permanent structures and you have to move you camp every 14 days...

Is this like an extended camping trip or just a full on lifestyle switch?

I can't see how you would hate people. Humans naturally seek community. I think you would be surprised how much you would yearn to communicate with people are a week or two in complete isolation. It also wouldn't be psychologically healthy to isolate yourself for too long. I think a week or two every now and then would be great for self awareness though. Good luck either way!

While I agree that most people require community, why is that I am much more satisfied and happy by myself. Also to the op good luck in your en devour I to hope to one day live in the wilderness if only for a short while.

Mr. Middle said: I spend 5 days alone in the mountains every two weeks, I plan to work up to 12 days, but I see no reason to stay out longer than that. It's nice to hit a hot tub, order a pizza, and restock on supplies. I use a Katadyn filter and a SteriPen for water. Something starts to happen to my perception after day 3... everyone should go solo once in a while. I've stashed clothes and camp supplies in the canyons, so I can bring in more food. It's amazing how much food I eat while hiking. Two pounds per day, including tea and sugar. No reason to rough it, we've done that for a million years. I say enjoy the best of both worlds. Good luck on your trip, PC.
Do you have a job? I'm not trying to come off as a dick, at all, just really curious. I can't see anyone holding down a job and doing that bi-weekly. if you do, tell me what the fuck it is so I too can hop on it.

I haven't had a job since 2005. I make, fix, and sell (legal) stuff. I live a simple life in order to do this, but I live well. The wilderness is realigning my perception.

I think it's no so much as the desire for complete isolation as it is a desire to get the hell away from society as t is now ... I mean it's pure faggotry... The fix to this in my mind is either do what you plan on doing or intelligent people get together and start a village in the wilderness just such as the natives... In order to help each other... There is strength in numbers, truly. Learning to do it alone is a priceless place to begin though that's where I'm at. Mr. Middle apparently has it down.. I'd love to learn all he has to offer. Screw the legalities I don't abide by such things... They better learn to do their job better than I can evade them if they want to stop me from using MY bow and arrow to FEED MYself.
Cheers to this! Sooner than later I plan on being completely self sufficient like mr . Middle... I just might have to move to a slightly warmer climate though. It tends to get a but chilly in Canada and it is def not the absolute best for my kinda crops year in and year out... I will see I kinda float in the wind... Take up almost no space and live extremely minimalistic. The same hundred bucks that would take most fellows under a week to live off of if not a day/hours... Will take me throughout a few months comfortably... Granted I've been to prison so I know wtf true necessary creature comforts are. Food bein priority 1.! My go to tools=nice axe,bow/arrow,fishing pole. I believe it's time we get back to the earth.
