I'm looking into buying a cheap DVD player as my old ones knackered.

Does this player sound any good and whats the difference between VDC and VCD ?

Built-in Dolby digital and DTS Decoder
DVD/VDC/SVCD/CD/CD-R/CD-RW/MP3/JPEG/HDCD disk compatible
10-bit video decoding
96KHz/ 24bit audio high-quality audio output
PAL/NTSC playback
500 high-resolution lines
Screen aspect ration selectable (4:3 and 16:9)

Dolby down-mix dual channel output (analog RCA TERMINAL)

Universal Power Supply (100V~230V)

I'd prefer a player of the same spec that supports recordable DVD's as well

Anyone got any recommendations ???

I'd say it was a typo

The player sounds pretty good, but I'd want to try it out with a selection of discs (region 1 & 2 and VCDs) before committing.

I've been pretty impressed with the quality of some of these cheap players - I replaced a mid range modded sony  with a cheap LG player last year and to be honest prefer the playback on the LG

Most all computer DVD players are made by the same company it's just after their made other companies like Dell, HP, Gateway, or Daewoo, in your case, put there logos on them. They will be able to read almost any kind of information you put in them. But just because the DVD player can read the dink doesn't mean it will show up on your monitor, getting good DVD playback software is very important I would recomend PowerDVD or WinDVD. They have always had the necessary codecs to play back whatever i download, or want to watch.

Why is it that when the batteries are almost out on your remote, you think pressing the buttons harder will make it work?

You misunderstood me Greygoose, this is a standalone DVD player.

I've had a PC DVD/CD RW combo as well as PowerDVD and WinDVD for about 5 years now !
