Tiny Cinema - 8/10
Really neat indy short film compilation with twilight zone type films. IMDB didn't like it apparently, they gave it a 4.6, lol. I stick by my 8/10, maybe a 6-7 for a couple of the shorts, but 8 overall.

'The Deep House' 2021
A couple of youtube Urbexers (I think) go to explore a new locale- a sunked sunken house at the bottom of a lake. However, the serene ideallic surface conditions couldn't be further from the realties awaiting them in The Deep House.

Watched last night on 4g- fucking sketchy!
Fantastically spooky concept that was well executed and really looked EXCELLENT.

Very dream-like and seems to get the 'liminal space' vibe spot on.

Super claustrophic, tense, madness inducing shit- if you liked 'As above so below' or 'Grave Encounters' to name a few, then you know what I mean.

A bit much build up but that's subjective.
By the time they get to the house shit goes NUTS.
Everytime the drone went into 'horror mode' me and SO would flip our shit, funny but in a scary fuckin way.

EDIT,
Oh yeah, the ending is perfect.

Another 8/10 from me, looking forward to watching it again some time :awesomenod:

Since you recommended this, I gave it a shot.
Granted, being fiction, this did take some suspension of disbelief; but apart from that, it was an enjoyable watch!
Very decent cinematography (especially considering the budget) and quirky, original stories.
I'll concur with your 8/10.

Made for TV flick starring Keanu Reeves, Keifer Sutherland, and Billy Zane.
It's a beautiful trainwreck oozing Reagan-era ridiculousness.

Operation Fortune
In the interest of harm-reduction, I open with my EXTREMELY GENEROUS score of 1/10
It's a "comedy" action "film"...

Let me preface, I LOVE Snatch, Lock Stock, Rock 'n Rolla and most recently The Gentlemen.

Spoilers ahead but I believe it's for your own good.

So when I seen there was a new Guy Ritchie out, I thought "Why not."

BIG mistake.

To use the parlance of our time, this "film" content was absolute dog shit.
If you like your entertainment proper plasticy, overproduced yet somehow completely fucking devoid of any discernable character- you might actually dig it!

The plot of having an actor play himself to get away with whatever the fuck it was they end up doing (secret spy stuff, espionage, subterfuge, you know- undercover, all very cloak and dogshit) was so basic that I felt myself 40 IQ down and a whole lot less excited by the time the fucking title came up.

No offense to Jason Statham (please don't kick me in mate) but I'm still not sure if I've seen the guy act at this point cos he's been doing/saying the same shit since 2002.
More of that, in this.

Guy Ritchie or one of the writing team obviously has a hardon for Aubrey Plaza as she was spouting gibberish 'double entendres' throughout the entirety (seriously, it was only 1 hour 54?! DOB didn't give me this level of time dilation....) of the content.

Gave me the fucking creeps.

This (and the acting) rendered her performance flatter than a Maccies pancake.

Hugh Grant made me laugh a few times, but a majority of it was because he's the same fucking character as in The Gentlemen and I was remembering lines he said better, to the same effect, in that film.

I could easily go on, but what's the use?

One last point actually:lol: when they (it's not subtle) implied there were going to be MORE IN THIS SERIES at the end, I genuinely felt some anger well up in me before I realised I'd watched this by choice and wouldn't be fooled again.
Come the fuck on, Guy Ritchie- I know you clearly lurk on shroomery- what the fuck happened mate?

Seriously, if you want a sort of, modern British gangstery crime romp with slick edit and great narrative then just watch The Gentlemen (9/10) if you haven't seen it.
It's fantastic.
Fuck Operation Fortune, after it finished I felt liberated.

Please don't watch this content.
:peacesign:

Perversion Story aka Una sull'altra (One On Top of The Other) from 1969 starring Marisa Mell and directed by Lucio Fulci. The plot focuses on a young woman who tries to get away with murder and run away with her husband's brother. Parts of it was shot in California and others in Italy. Very sensual and mysterious. One scene is shot in a psychedelic club where Marisa pretends to be a stripper, biding her time so she can make a run for it later. Here is a clip from said scene.

Leaving Las Vegas with John Cage and Elizabeth Shue, directed by Mike Figgis, based on the semi-autobiographical 1990 novel of the same name by John O'Brien.

From Wikipedia:

Quote:

Nicolas Cage stars as a suicidal alcoholic in Los Angeles who, having lost his family and been recently fired, has decided to move to Las Vegas and drink himself to death. He loads a supply of liquor and beer into his BMW and gets drunk as he drives from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. Once there, he develops a romantic relationship with a sex worker played by Elisabeth Shue and the film shifts to include her narrative perspective.

Leaving Las Vegas was filmed in super 16 mm instead of 35 mm film... After limited release in the United States on October 27, 1995, Leaving Las Vegas was released nationwide on February 9, 1996, receiving strong praise from critics and audiences. Cage received the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor - Motion Picture Drama and the Academy Award for Best Actor. Shue was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress - Motion Picture Drama and the Academy Award for Best Actress. The film also received nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Director.

Here's a clip from the beginning of the film where Cage's character experiences his first existential crisis at a strip club in LA.

All in all an interesting film with a complicated plot and lots of side stories that develop into confusing yet entertaining subplots. Cage's acting in this film is very convincing - it seems like you are really watching someone go through a life crisis and struggling to cope to deal with his emotions with Elizabeth Shue there as a prostitute to try to comfort him in his final days. The directing is simple and direct. It draws the viewers attention to Cage's desire to find meaning in his life even though he has very little to hold on to. I would give it four stars out of five, mainly for the high quality of the writing it was based on. The main issues were with the supporting actors and actresses who didn't add much interest to the scenes.

South Park: Post Covid & Post Covid: The Return of Covid    8/10

These 2 made-for-TV South Park movies were really good! It was a trip! The only part I didnt like was the repetition of "Alexa". It was pretty annoying. It does play a major role in the second movie with the arching plot but it was still obnoxious. The Ending is Wild! I even got teary eyed from it. I highly recommend watching these :yesnod:

Acting is poor, set is kind of interesting, directing is alright, plot is flimsy. The ladies are beautiful and 1/2 naked, so worth a watch, but probably only a 4/10.

I watched all of these on a 2.50 grams of mushrooms.

Memories (1995 anime).  Great anime film made up of three different stories.  I especially loved the first chapter.  Stink Bomb was good & very funny.  Last one wasn't bad but felt like it didn't fit with the other two.  Animation top notch on all three.

2001 A Space Odyssey.  I can see the influence it had on so many other movies.  I will say it was a little too long & boring for my taste, but it does have good moments.  But I'm sure it was a serious mind fuck back in the 60's.  I did love the 60's fashion/vibe with the futuristic setting.  Also the whole part with HAL, awesome.

Robot Carnival (1987 anime).  Fucking loved this one.  Another film made up of 9 different stories, all different animation with that 80's vibe.  The middle story got really slow, but otherwise great movie.

Contempt (1963) Godard

Not sure why I slept on this so long, it was fucking amazing. Bridget Bardot was probably the most beautiful woman in the world, and she gets nekkid a few times. The story is about love fading away and a new loves taking their place. Amazing cinematography and score this was a 10/10. Way better than Breathless

Devotion    9.5/10

Really cool movie. It really gives the feeling of being in the 1950's. Some of the best cineophotography Ive seen in a movie. So well shot! Really good acting too. Engauging narration. And the music score. Seamless. Smooth. Authentic. Highly recommended movie.
