The Black Phone (2021) Great movie about a kid locked in a serial killers basement where a disconnected old phone is being called by the killers previous victims from beyond the grave. Set in the 70s Denver Ethan Hawk plays "the Grabber" a kidnapper in a sinister black van. I liked it 8/10

I just watched Soylent Green from 1973 it’s based in 2022 and the world is unsustainable there’s little real food just fake stuff from soy called Soylent Green. It’s a very good movie I’m afraid if I say more I will spoil it but I recommend it 4/5.

Lunatics: A Love Story (1991) 7/10

This movie has a lot of quirky charm. Ted Raimi did a great job playing the unstable lead role and Bruce Campbell played a few small roles. There are some great shots and set pieces and some really great original ideas here. This one would be great for a remake especially if you replaced the wacky humor with intelligent dark humor. It was a fun one for me.

Ha ha we have come full circle because my generation all remember Phil Hartman on SNL as Heston screaming out the final line to ruin it for anyone who hadn't seen it, but now most young people would not have seen those old SNLs so its all spoilable again.
I rewatched the Salton Sea (2002) with Val Kilmer today, its all right, set the days before all the meth was cartel meth and actual cooks making it. Best character is pooh bear played by Vincent d'onofrio a guy who snorted so much bath tub meth his nose fell off and he has a plastic one

Sorry to Bother You https://m.imdb.com/title/tt5688932/
This is great. Initially I think 8/10 but The Last Dragon references push it to a 9.

Rage (1995) 8/10

This movie is awesomely awkward over-the-top action gold! It is up there with Parole Violators and Killing American Style. The perfect movie to watch with a group of friends on a Friday night after a week of hard work and still broke and drinking a few PBRs too many. The plot is so fast paced and all over the place. I think it is the first film I have watched by director Joseph Mehri, but he apparently made quite a few of these 80s/90s direct-to-video action flicks, that I hope to check out in the near future.

Sorry to Bother You was fun but a little too ridiculous for me at points. Good movie for that weird genre of comedy horror that Peele seems to be pushing.

Yeah I liked The Lighthouse quite a bit. I need to watch it again. It had a Hitchcock vibe/atmosphere to it.
I just watched Ambulance. The Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Bay directed action extravaganza where Gyllenhaal and his (adopted) brother, in the middle of a bank robbery escape, jack an ambulance & take an EMT hostage.
It's part Heat, part Speed -- in an ambulance. Oh yeah and toss in a cartel subplot in there too for good measure. It's as ridiculous as it sounds. But we all know Michael Bay has never cared about the absurdity of a plot. He likes to blow shit up. He likes to blow a lot of shit up. He likes insane car chases. He likes really hot female supporting characters (Eiza Gonzalez). He likes bullets flying from start to finish.
I swear these dudes during the course of the movie destroyed half of Los Angeles. They left an absolute trail of destruction in their wake, lol. Gyllenhaal looked like he had fun doing it, and he was pretty damn funny in spots as unhinged bank robber guy. Say what you will about Michael Bay -- his plots are ridiculous and the dialogue in his films can often be corny and cringeworthy, but I still think you'd be hard pressed to find an action director in the past couple of decades that can rival him as far as visual action goes.
The action in his movies just look super cool. And stylish. It's a great movie to watch in surround sound, in 4K (especially on an OLED).
If you leave your brain at the door and just enjoy it for what it is, it can be fun. I wouldn't know what to rate it, though. There's probably not much in between on this one. You're either going to hate it or going to love it. People into dialogue and plot will absolutely loathe it. People who just want a bonkers action popcorn summer flick will love it.

COFFEE TOWN 2013 comedy
starring Glenn Howerton, Ben Schwartz & Steve Little
produced by College Humor
i give it 8/10. it has some seriously funny bits. Steve Little (Stevie from Eastbound&Down) and Glenn Howerton (Dennis from Its Always Sunny) have great chemistry. I dont know Ben Schwartz from anything but his role as a cop in Coffee Town is great.
Howerton uses the local coffee shop as his "office" to use the wifi and hang with the other 2 guys. the three characters have to formulate a plan to save the coffee shop after learning its owners plan to convert it to a Bistro/Bar

I just got done watching a four part series on Netflix called "How To Change Your Mind" by Michael Pollan. It was pretty well put together. It was meant to describe the psychedelic experience to those who are misled about their potential to heal and show...

I Drink Your Blood (1970) 6/10

Ok, this movie was kinda wacky and kinda played into the "acid is evil" propaganda that was prevalent in movies around this time. So a group of santanic, LSD-taking hippies terrorize a small town. A boy in that town gets tired of the hippie shenanigans. The boy had recently killed a rabid dog and decides to take a syringe and extract some of the blood from this dog and injects the fluid into some pies that the hippies go ahead and eat. This does take out some of the hippies but affects the other hippies to go into an evil rage. There were some funny moments.

Bride of the Monster (1955) 2/10

This was a tough one to get through, even with it's short runtime that was just over an hour. I love cheezy old sci-fi and horror films, but this one had none of the qualities I look for in films like this.
