I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang (1932) - 8.2/10

Really tightly scripted and well paced in a way I didn't expect. Powerful film. Great ending.

Wonder Woman 84

0/10

Worst movie I've seen in years, by far. I was mesmerized by how awful of a movie it was. Movie scholars could probably create an entire University school course on this movie alone teaching people what not to do when making a movie.

Ready Player One

7/10

Good movie.

The Hobbit trilogy

8/10

I read the book recently and rewatched the movies. On second viewing and immediately following reading the book,  I think the movies did very well and any expanded stuff actually strengthens the story and characters beyond what the book itself might have.

Wings of Desire (1987)
10/10

This was my first time viewing this.  I was blown away by the story, visuals and the use of black & white vs. color.  I'm gonna have to watch this a few more times to grasp all the deep, philosophical dialog and voice-over dialog because there is an abundance of it and it comes at you rather quick. I was rather surprised when it was revealed that Columbo was also a fallen angel.

The Friends of Eddie Coyle(1973)- 7.5/10

Robert Mitchum plays low level, but well connected, Boston gangster facing a coming trial and ends up making some deals. It ends up being a movie where everyone fucks everyone else over. Cops, gangsters, robbers, even a so-called innocent victim. Everyone fucks everyone else over in the movie and there's no loyalty. Mitchum does great even though he's not a likable character(nobody really is here, save perhaps his Irish wife). He was perfectly cast in this. Although a good ol' 70s gritty crime watch, I feel that it's let down by its predictability and taking the no loyalty thing too far. I do however give it props for portraying the main copper as a slimeball just a icky as the criminals he's trying to put down.

I like this one. A good example of a small gangster movie, low budget, small cast. And as you say, Mitchum is perfectly cast. One of my grad school roommates always called him Squid Mitchum.

Been watching a lot of docs lately

One about shopping cart riding, on YT, "Carts of Darkness"

Some beautiful lovers of life and good souls in that documentary.

9/10

Also,  a ~40 something minute long doc about fentanyl. That was a 9.5/10 but it could have gone longer and more in depth

Indeed. I just rewatched Love and Death a couple days ago. That's my favorite of his early pure comedies.

Yellowstone (series on Paramount Network starring Kevin Costner).

9/10. Outstanding. I was skeptical at first when my brother-in-law recommended it, because I saw Costner as probably washed up and at the end of his career, and I don't look at Paramount as a top tier network/platform but it is just fantastic.

Pound for pound probably one of the best drama series out there.

This movie was Epic! Wow, what a concept! Its pretty intense, but well worth it! Watched it on Sara's Movie-Night Discord. Really enjoyed the whole movie. Nice work South Korea for making this film. Apparently there's a TV series too :awesome:

This one is very clever as it takes the same story, and does two different versions of it: one as a comedy, one as a tragedy. Woody Allen has a truly amazing imagination.

My Octopus Teacher  9/10

I really liked this one. The cinematography was beautiful and I was enthralled through the whole piece, watching a sort of day-in-the-life of an octopus, especially the methods they use for survival. Definitely worth a watch.

Laser Mission (1989)
5/10

This is a gawd-awful action flick starring Brandon Lee.  The plot is ridiculous and the acting is supra-bad, therfore, of course, I enjoyed it.  As much as I am a fan of the film The Crow, I didn't realize what a bad actor Brandon was - maybe the make-up he wore in The Crow helped to hide it?  Ernest Borgnine is in it and uses an accent that is so atrocious that I can't tell where he is supposed to be from.  Most B-movies of this caliber usually has an ultra-hot leading lady - not this movie, and the way she acts makes it seem it was a big chore to play this role.  There are Cuban Nazis in this film for reason I don't remember/understand.
