Fargo  10/10

I've seen it a bunch of times, and it just gets better and better. I think this is the Coen brothers' second-best effort after No Country for Old Men. Both are essentially flawless films.

Frances McDormand has this quality of being nearly perfect in many movies (Fargo, Almost Famous, Three Billboards etc.) , which is perhaps better than being perfect in one. In the Coen Brothers first movie, Blood Simple, she was the  fill in female star,  because her friend Holly Hunter couldn't do it and suggested her.

She has a tiny scene in Miller's Crossing, which most people wouldn't notice, but I'm into her.

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone (2013)
8/10

I really enjoyed this.  All the actors performances were spot on.  Carell and Carrey did such a fantastic job being arrogant bastards.  Alan Arkin was a delight as always.

The New World: Extended Cut 7/10

Overall, well done movie. However, the extended cut, at almost three hours long was not the easiest to keep my attention. I liked the story, dispute it being untrue, but felt that it was not the most ambitious plot wise...it did make me want to watch more by the director.

Hey people, check this trailer out

The Wolf House. Stop motion animated horror. Looks disturbing. I haven't seen it yet but I saw it on a best of 2020 list. Imagine watching this shit on a stout mushroom dose...

It's been atleast 5 years since I've actually watched a movie. I don't like acting, but I can watch YouTube all day.

The Assistant. Starring Julia Garner (Ruth from Ozark).

1/10

I liked the concept going into it -- Garner plays your average office assistant who is surrounded by mostly men. Her environment is supposed to be considerably toxic with it starting from the top.

Because of Garner's work as Ruth I'm a big fan of hers. She's a terrific talent. But I swear, nothing happens in the movie. It may be the first time I've ever seen a full length movie where not a single notable thing happens. Sure there are undertones and hints of things happening -- but nothing actually happens. Nothing seen or confirmed for the viewer anyway. It was weird. I sat there watching it thinking this is maybe the slowest movie I've ever seen, but at some point there was going to be a payoff. But that payoff never came. The camera just follows her around doing office stuff. Printing papers, tidying up, ordering and serving lunch, taking phone calls. I felt like I was watching a movie that was the day in the life of an average office assistant.

Never really seen anything quite like it (in a bad way). Going off the summary before I watched it, it had a ton of potential. Especially with Garner. But the director met exactly 0% of that potential.

I partook in a double feature of films that have never been released beyond the VHS format. (I have a soft spot for these movies).

Gremloids (aka Hyperspace) (1984)
7/10

This was a somewhat corny but very enjoyable Star Wars spoof.  I did laugh out loud quite a few times.  Paula Poundstone can get annoying after too much exposure to her tho.

A scene from the film depicting Lord Buckethead and one of my comedy idols.

Secret Agent 00 Soul
7/10

This movie was straight up wacky.  I don't think I have seen a film that has had more unnecessary explosions.  I did laugh out loud a bit to this one too.  "Brown, James Brown."  The plot jumps all over the place - spy movie, haunted house movie, mummy rap video to wacky over-the-top action.  The music is great too, with a constant Casio theme song and one song that has a decent Michael Jackson-sounding singer.  Sometimes Billy Dee dresses as Blackula or Sherlock Homes or rocks a tux.  Twas much fun.

Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer .  A campy B comedy / horror Canadian film.  While on a family camping trip a young boy’s mother and father are ambushed and eaten alive by a monster.  Later in life, Jack, a student & a plumber who is always getting into trouble because of his anger management issues - must face off against his unresolved past fears when his chemistry teacher; who, after having been possessed by an ancient Japanese demon-monster heart with an insatiable appetite for flesh, seeks to quench his hunger by snacking on Jack and his classmates!

7/10 just bc I like it.

Alienator (1990)
7/10

As I see more movies directed by Fred Olen Ray, the more he is becoming one of my favorite B-movie directors.  This was originally a straight-to-VHS production that many years later received a DVD release.  Jan Michael Vincent is in it, either drunk again and/or had some kind of facial reconstructive surgery that caused him to mumble when he spoke.  It's a fun ride with crazy action and plot holes galore.

yeah, same here. Danny Mcbride is kind of one-note in most of his roles, but i think he did a great job with this one.

8/10
