Yeah, he wrote lots of good stuff. I also like Hell's Angels, Kingdom of Fear, The Rum Diary, The Great Shark Hunt, Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72, The Curse of Lono. Hey Rube is a collection of his ESPN Page 2 articles and is hilarious. Kind of a sports bent, though, which might turn off some.
And yeah, Gonzo is fantastic. RIP Good Doctor.

Haha I just watched F&L again last night. Great movie. I watched an Omnibus with hunter, too, and it was very interesting and fun to watch. He was quite a man. Too weird to live, too rare to die.

What did he actually do though, apart from take loads of drugs and write some pretty good books? I like that movie F&L, and enjoyed the book, but now I'm not obsessed with drugs, I'm not as impressed by old Hunter as I was. And what does 'Too weird to live, too rare to die' even mean?

Okay, first off (with no disrespect or hostility intended), Hunter created a entire new form of journalism. He wrote very well written, funny, entertaining books that really made me think a lot about society. What have you done that makes you such a great person? You don't have to take over the world to be impressive. And i think that the saying kind of explains itself...

Jufin, your sentiments are not without merit. Jann Wenner, Hunter's editor at Rolling Stone, always expressed regret that Hunter didn't write more, and didn't write anything as good as Fear and Loathing ever again. It would have helped his career a lot if he weren't so addled by drugs and alcohol all the time -- it really did him in. And his chronic depression didn't help anything. Fear and Loathing was by far his best work, and I, too, am sorry he didn't write anything approaching it in the thirty plus years he had to reprise it. But I do cherish the writings we do have, and F&L is one of the great American novels.
'Too weird to live, too rare to die' was actually what Hunter said of Oscar Acosta. It is said of Hunter as well, although it was something originally said by him about Acosta (Dr. Gonzo).

Yeah, fair enough. I only read F&L so I should get into his other stuff and not judge. Although 'On the Road' had a similar idea. Does it mean, too weird to live as in he killed himself, and too rare to die as in people still talk about him?

Too weird for the world. Can't be accepted. Can't function normally. Too rare to die. Endangered. Not enough people like him to have him go

I don't know, I always interpreted the first part of mean he was too weird to fit into most roles society offers, and was kind of an outlaw, and the second part that he was so rare he was untouchable, kind of had a light shining on him, if you will. That's just my take.

I've only seen the billboard and it looks pretty standard... Matt Damon is, the spaceman! He's about to find out, bein stranded on a strange planet, isn't as easy as it looks.

Battle Royal 7.5/10 liked it a lot more than i expected. Though its hard to tell with japanese movies how much of the humor is intended, and how much is just default japaneseiness

it can be a little cliche hollywood at times, but what a great movie.
the forest reminds me of places I've been while meditating on mushrooms.
I also like that it does a really good job of promoting the one-ness to the general public.
i should watch it more often.
