Fog of War

10/10

Errol Morris is a G at making documentaries (second only to Frederick Wiseman - who BTW has made many great documentaries and even recently with his Boxing Gym, At Berkeley, National Gallery; see also his older Welfare, Highschool and Titticut Folly's, among others)...

but yeah this movie is about Robert McNamara being interviewed by Morris and him talking about his life in 11 rules of being a chief of war and civilization.

lots of brilliant old reel footage of news and war journalism and of topographic bombings, and lots of photography and time-lapse shots of people in their day-to-day lives in the modern world contrasting all this.

it's a brilliant documentary with a chilling message.

I know what you mean. Joe Dirt 2 sucked ass. I'd rate it 1 out of 10. Made it in about as far as you did. Somewhere between 20 and 30 minutes. I was drunk and couldn't even stand to watch it. Wound up watching some low budget horror movies and stand up on Netflix.

This is an underrated film. Keanu Reeves does an outstanding job as an abusive alcoholic.

Actually I was talking about the movie that came out this year. I'll check that other out since you mentioned it though

High and Low (1963) by Akira Kurowsawa
6/10

I'm a huge fan of Kurosawa, but this one is certainly one of his weakest. It drags on uselessly, and it has too many annoying cliches. It's not a bad film by any means, but it's definitely not up there with the likes of Rashomon, Seven Samurai, Ikuru and the magnificent Dodes'ka-den.

Spring Breakers

10/10

Satisfies all my senses.  Great rhythm.  The perception of time is really trippy.  Has some things I've never seen done before.  All up a really fun movie.

Sicario - a big Denis Villeneuve fan.

But my favorite tripping movie I got from someone on this site: Microcosmos - live action A Bug's Life.

Gonzo

10/10

Hunter S. Thompson documentary. lots of nice footage, HST photography, great quotes, great interviews, it covers all of the early Hells Angels days and Fear and Loathing days, and...gets to his end.

it's sad. it was a great review of the craziness of his life. F&L in Los Vegas is still one of the greatest documents ever conceived. now i wanna read his other work.
