Straight Time(1978)- 9/10
Great stuff. A con finds difficulty in adaptation, beats his p.o.(and leaves him unpanted on the side ov the highway no less), and connects with old buds to go on a burglary spree. Not too crazy sounding but the character portrait unfolds brilliantly as Dustin Hoffman plays the violence prone but driven con who finds companionship in the pretty and willfully naïve Theresa Russell in her second film role. During the initial moments i began to question the choice ov Hoffman, wondering if his outwardly soft spoken demeanor quite fit with the role ov a hardened criminal. But ah yes, the snap inherent in Hoffman's characterizations began to shine through, and initial appeals to sympathy turn to a much colder sense ov foreboding. I now see how he was perfect for it, and the underlying disparity between outward appearance and the interior as the latter bubbles over at its boiling point, likewise portrayed in Taxi Driver, is captured brilliantly. Gary Busey kills in his role as friend, just as he always does. This one deserves more recognition.

Sneakers 9/10
One of the gems of the first half of the nineties. Certainly one of the most clever and original scripts to come out of that decade.

Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical
8/10
Much more enjoyable than the original Reefer Madness. I really enjoyed the over-the-topness of it. Along the same lines as Rocky Horror as far as the level of campy fun and memorable songs.

Upgrade - 9/10
Surprisingly really good. Part robo cop, part ex machina. Best sci fi I’ve seen since ex machina.
Knives Out
8/10
Solid cast. Slow start but worth sticking around until the end.
Parasite
7/10
It was enjoyable but I don’t get the hype.
Harpoon
7/10
Low budget but a very original story that flew under the radar.
Togo
7/10
So many feel good dog movies out there but this is the best one I’ve seen in awhile. Happy tears at the end.
The Lighthouse
6/10
Love the cast but found this one a little too artsy for My taste.

Minority Report 10/10
A wonderful and exciting movie, I think this is one of Spielberg's best. (Up there with A.I., Munich, etc.) It is based on a PKD short story from the 50s, and they really went all the way with it. Obviously, this means it must be an excellent story, and it is, and they did not botch the script. Has a noirish vibe to it, since they upped the contrast all the way and saturated all of the colors, which was effective. No point in going into the story since it's so complicated, but I'd say watch it if you haven't. Definitely a good film.

I watched Interstellar again. 9.5/10. It seems not to lose anything over time, but I've only watched it a small handful of times. Nice to have a big-budget movie that gets the science right and doesn't make insulting errors. The story is phenomenal, especially for an original screenplay like this. Wormholes, black holes, relativistic physics -- pretty cool. I give them big kudos for the fact that the black hole in the movie looks almost exactly like the one that was "photographed." I think this and the Dark Knight are Nolan's best films. Really very good.

The Sean Penn one is a timeless classic, could say the same of the other one, but a whole different genre.

Cet Obscur Objet du Desir - 8.8/10 Starring Fernando Ray, Carole Bouquet and Angelina Molina Directed by Luis Buñuel, winner of Best Director at The National Board Of Review in 1977. Based on a book by Pierre Louÿs, who wrote a (different) book of erotic (mainly) woman-on-woman poetry and claimed that it was from ancient Greece. Louÿs continued to write in this style up to and including on his death bed. Telling.
Provocative foreground / background interplay. Spotlights a sex/power relationship with undertones of lunar mind control - compare to mythological Hecate.
Makes me think of that Soilent Green Album "Sewn Mouth Secrets"
Very carefree feminine character surrounded by the riches of the earth, only to be the subject of a grindcore album.

Bumblebee 9/10 (B++)
What a great movie. Definitely a tear-jerker for me, especially in the beginning. Had action, character development, comedy, touching moments, bonding. All the good stuff. Its also a semi-prequel to the original Transformer movie. That was an awesome touch. There was even a very brief Bigfoot scene. That was a nice Easter Egg. The only two things that bothered me was some things didnt fit into the time era and some action scenes were a little "unrealistic". Other than that, loved it. One of my favorite movies to date.

Never on Sunday(1960)- 6.5/10
This one was very polarizing for me. Melina Mercouri steals the show as the happy-go-lucky prostitute in an ouzo washed Greek port city, embodying independent feminine strength in charismatic flair. Writer, director, and male lead Jules Dassin simultaneously annoys to near unwatchability in his poorly acted, overdramatic role as the American philosopher who tries to change her ways with Aristotelian logic. Her charismatic nature thankfully prevails and free spirit reigns supreme over the chains ov self-imposed morality. I really like the underlying message in this, not to mention the fun Greek atmosphere and refreshingly positive portrayal ov a prostitute in a film from 1960. But the cringe in watching Dassin's overexaggerated role and the unbelievable ease at which some plot developments occur greatly detract from what would otherwise be a fun and light-hearted little comedic drama that's shockingly incisive in painting a beautiful picture over a canvas soiled by effete words.

La Règle Du Jeu 9.1/10
A wake up call. At its opening, this comedy of manners outraged aristocratic audiences of pre-WWII France because they did not want to change their ways. The cheapened values of the upper class and their servants are revealed in all their shamefulness and the viewer is automatically drawn to a feeling of natural disgust. The director knew war was coming when the callous behavior and immorality condoned by those in power in France aligned with the rise of fascism in Spain and Hitler's preparation for the invasion of Poland.
There are some great scenes that use a deep focus lens to include groups of characters in different areas while all remaining in focus at the same time. Some shots are also considerably lengthy and permit a great fluidity in the story line. Renoir himself plays the role of the most ridiculous and childish of all the characters in the film without parading all over it yet he still shows some consideration for the kind of people he demeans. The disasters that result from starstruck romanticism give rise to a sense of terror that only gets worse as the characters devolve into yet more worldly frivolity. This is a fine dose of reality for those in positions of power today or almost any time in history. I watched the hour and 46 minute bluray version of the film which contained a lot of scenes centered around dialogue and fighting. There were moments that seemed drawn out (this is 32 more minutes than the more common version nowadays) but they added more depth to Renoir's vision.
