Bram Stoker's Dracula
8.5/10
Not Coppola's best, but it's a good movie to watch around Halloween. What's cool is that it infuses history that is reasonably accurate, and stays true to Stoker's novel. Gary Oldman was, as always, magnificent.

J.D.'s Revenge(1976)- 6/10
Wanting to scratch a cinematic itch but lacking in the idea ov what to watch, i went on imdb and blindly pressed some random keys, specifically 'jds' to see what came up first in the search engine. The result was this 1976 blaxploitation film about an everyday person who gets possessed by a gangster type who was killed 30 years prior. The spirit ov the hustler goes on to avenge his wrongful murder through the transitioning body ov this new carnate vessel.
It's watchable. There's the typical 70s era blaxploitation silliness but it's not over the top and it's a pretty cool concept. It was fun to see him adopt the dress and manner ov a pimpin' 40s gangster. The pacing could have been quicker, but i do'nt have too much to fault it on considering the era and budget. It's actually not that bad but personal tastes govern it to a 6/10. Anyway, it was at least an interesting completely random selection.

My brother watched the witch on acid. Even in a straight frame of mind black phillip scares the hell out of me. For a Halloween movie.
Trick R Treat if one is in a non P.C. and jovial mood. Life is good man.

Casino Royale (1967)
8/10
Goofy 007 comedy, but quite good. John Huston played M, and was one of the many directors. It also features Peter Sellers, David Niven, Orson Welles, Woody Allen, William Holden and Ursula Andress. Its silliness is only matched by Austin Powers. Much fun.

The Endless 7/10
If Annihilation and Primer were related and had a baby, The Endless would be their love child.

I LOVED it. I know it didnt end wrapped up with a pretty bow on it but it was very thought provoking and very different from anything else I have ever seen.
And a new rating method I've been using lately is trying to factor in how much I'll dissect a movie after I watch it. I may love a movie but after the credits roll, I might never think about it again or have the urge to watch it again.
Not with Annihilation. It stayed on my mind for days and I even went back to watch it again.
How about you? It seems to be very polarizing. Its either love or hate.
Have you seen The Endless yet? Or how about the movie Spring? It was done by the same two film makers. They star in The Endless but not in Spring. I haven't seen it yet, but I will definitely be adding it to my list of movies to see.
Which currently looks like this in case you were wondering.... - [ ] Brazil - [ ] Rep Man - [ ] Traveller - [ ] Spring - [ ] Vertigo - [ ] Lost Highway - [ ] Mr Brooks - [ ] Long Strange Trip (Grateful Dead Doc) - [ ] It Comes At Night - [ ] Kalifornia - [ ] Overlord - [ ] Borders (Grän) - [ ] Triplets documentary - [ ] A Simple Favor - [ ] Man Bites Dog - [ ] Strange Days - [ ] Love and a .45 - [ ] Croupier - [ ] Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - [ ] 25th Hour - [ ] North By Northwest - [ ] My Own Private Idaho - [ ] Terrence Malick Films - [ ] The Discovery - [ ] Mosquito Coast - [ ] Marathon Man

Yeah I know he has a lot of die hard fans. I started The Thin Red Line a few times but just couldn't get into it. I don't think I was in the right head space at the time. I'll give it another go.
Which would you recommend someone starts with?

Not a bad list. I agree with clock that Malick's stuff may be the best of what's on it. I liked Annihilation a lot -- very inventive and original. I think I liked Ex Machina a little better, which was his previous film. Guy's good. Thanks for an interesting reply.

Badlands is more narratively conventional than the others, so that might be a good place to start. Might as well just go chronological order.

Apocalypse Now Redux
10/10
Decided to watch this because I just read Heart of Darkness the other day, on which AN is heavily based. I hadn't read it for twenty years, and was pleasantly surprised to see how relatively closely the movie follows the book. Of course one is about the ivory trade (and consequent colonization) and the other is about Vietnam, but the transformation was quite clever and faithful. One of my top ten books, and one of my top five movies, and neither disappointed, that's for sure. It's a privilege to be able to enjoy such immense genius.

Decent movie. Kinda corny, kinda silly. But overall it was pretty interesting suspense/survival type movie. Not too bad for a Lifetime exclusive.
