dark caps

is it okay to eat shrooms that the cap has STARTED to turn dark (not black tho)? my friend has the BIGGEST GTS EVER!!!! growing, and some of the caps are so mature they are starting to go dark/black....man, they are huge... the stem is about a coke bottle nossle wide!!!!!! about 15-20cm long!#!@$#!@$%!#%$!@#

hehe ! I had some mexicans with a stem that long, just fabulous !
To the point, if the mushrooms grew with no sign of contamination then they are safe to ingest, the black cap could be due to spore deposit or over maturity. Over mature fruit bodies should be very well dried or they can rot very rapidly.
