well you should rehydrate them somehow, if you dunk them give em about 24 hours then start fruiting them again.

use vermaculite to case it works great. it holds more moisture than any substrate. lowes gardening section

Well your partially right. A casing layer can be considered many things, but it's main function is to provide a suitable microclimate for pinhead formation. When the fruit bodies start to mature the casing layer then acts as a reservoir for the shroomies to draw water from.
This being said, there are a few casing materials out there that do contain varied amounts of nutrients. Peat moss being one of them can still be used however, the risk of contamination is just greater.
The best casing materials out there would have to be verm or coco coir IMO, as both lack any nutrients.

depends on the strain. I've heard that most strains will form pins a day to a week after first flush was harvested. However, with my cambos, the second flush would start before the first flush was harvested. Once the first flush was fully matured and harvesteed, the second flush would take off. Kinda trippy. Anyway, imo it comes down to the strain you are using.
