Hoodia Cactus
    #1598210 - 06/01/03 12:47 PM (20 years, 9 months ago)

Anyone have this or know of any sources?

It's the cactus that is supposed to be a really effective appetite suppressant.

There's a cactusseed company in the UK that sells four species of Hoodia cacti (H. Gordonii, H. juttae, H. macrantha and H. Ruschii) I don't know what kind of Hoodia is in the pic., but I'm sure you can find it in a cactus encyclopedia.
This company is very reliable and they also have lots of Trichocereus and Lophophora species!! It's worth it to order a catalog.
I don't really know if I may give you their adress, since I'm not so familiar with this forums rules. But if you want to know it, let me know and I'll PM the adress. I don't think they have a website.

you can post entho suppliers here.  people always post about BBB the only thing that is frowned upon is when someone gives aways a floral arrangement supplier.  some people depend on them for pain medicine.  everything else is fair game tho.  peace

Someone told me the official rules are that you cannot post them unless they sponser the shroomery but I dunno if this is true or not. Either way the purpose behind that would be to stop spammers and free advertising, as long as you aren't doing that I doubt the mods will care. Its one of those rule put in so people cant abuse thing, you wont be abusing anything.

The rules of the shroomery regarding sources, as far as i remember, are many, but the one that apply here are about sponsors. Sources are prohibited unless sponsors of the shroomery. However including a link to a sponsor in your sig is prohibited as it woudl invite sponsors to buy user's sig space for an advertisement.

However, we're the mods of the forum and we're supposed to enforce the rules for this forum. That being said: to quote Dailypot: "I doubt the mods will care"

Nopel we don't care as long as it's not spammed.

:cool:Allright, I'll share the adress with you guys then. It's Doug & Vivi Rowland.
Check them out on http://www.cactus-mall.com/rowland/
It seems that they only sell 2 kinds of Hoodia anymore. My catalog at home was from 2002.

To Jackal; Is that the cactus that is traditionally used by the Pygmees in South Africa to suppres their hunger? If you find out what kind of Hoodia they use please let us know.

It appears that all Hoodia are capable of appetite suppression. Although H. Gordonii is the most effective.

Hoodia is a small Asclepiad genus of 10 to 20 species, and some sites name the H. Gordonii as the particluar species that is being used by the pharmaceuticals industry to extract the active ingredient.

Thats bizzare, there was a program on BBC2 last night called "The Cactus and the bushmen" or summin similar which was all about this cactus and the effect selling its active ingriedient will have on the san tribe of the kali hari. It was quite interesting, its been proved to suppress appetite for 20 hours, although the tribes originally used it supress appetite for days on long hunting trips.
