2nd flush

Hey evrybody
Well, this round of pf tek cultivation has gone really well. we have learned some things about the shroom life cycle and optimal conditions (for example, we were misting infrequently and getting tiny fruits, then we tried misting more and voila, bigger fruits!)
SO now we are at the point where they have been fruiting for about two weeks, with growth popping up in different places every day, and some tiny "pins" i guess you could say that appear to be miniature mature fruit but some of them grow to full size and some stay the same.
we have been intending to do a dunk and roll (using reverse osmosis water and baked, cooled verm) but even after searching the forums, i'm confused as to the best way to do this.
Here's what I think, from what i have read so far:
pick all the fruits that appear mature (even if they are teenytiny)(the tiny maturelooking ones can be eaten fresh or dried). pick and dispose of pins with black heads. Then dunk for 12-24 hours (we placed all the cakes in a large ziplock for the original dunk). Then rinse under cool running water, roll in dry verm (include top and bottom of cake) and place back into fruiting chamber.
we hope that this will hydrate our cakes, which were rolled for the first flush but were patchy and seemed to dry out quickly (hence more misting) and therefore we hope to see larger fruits for the second flush.
If this is right or wrong, let me know. We plan to dunk on Friday, two weeks and 2 days after first pinning in chamber.

Sounds like you've got as good a head on your shoulders as any of us noobs could. I believe I recall reading an RR post where he said that rolling for later flushes is not necessary, just dunk and replace in your FC. Sorry I can't dig it up for you, I'm on my phone. Do you have any photos?

Thanks! I have seen something to that effect, that some people suggest not doing the re-roll, but I believe that other people have had success with it (search-fu ninja, "i'm sure i've seen that somewhere"), and I think that in my case it could benefit my cakes in that the verm (which is currently a very thin, patchy layer over the mycelium) would help keep the moisture in the cakes and create bigger fruit.
so if not a "roll" exactly, then what? sprinkle it on, cover the patches? Won't dunking in water for 12 hours rinse off the little bit of verm already on there?
I'm pretty set on doing it, if only to do my own research, and I have yet to see any actual reason not to, besides that one quote you provided. I would take any actual explanations into consideration. I want to learn from the pros on this board, but i also dont believe in doing what someone "says" without an good reason behind it. Damn science background!

RogerRabbit said: You're not supposed to roll after the first flush. Your risk of contamination goes way up. Think about it. The layer of verm is protecting mold spores and bacteria that landed on the cake all during the first flush. If they're exposed to the air, they have less chance of germinating. That may or may not be why they're too wet(rot), but avoid rolling after the second and later dunks. RR

We dunked for nearly 24 hours, and we rolled three of them in a thick layer of verm, and only rinsed the other three. Learning experience time
