where the hells the colonization...
    #1615374 - 06/06/03 06:02 PM (20 years, 10 months ago)

ok 10 days ago i mixed together 12 1/2 pint jars of brf,verm,water- i did everything i was suppose to- boiled them for well over an hour- steralized everything- i inocculated 1cc per jar of equador cubensis- the only thing i can think of that i did wrong was when the directions said to put in 1/2 vermiculite i put in a 1/4 cup- i dont know what kind of difference this makes, but its been 10 days and theres prob 2 jars that i notice that might have a lil growth in them- i have been keeping them at a stable 80% and recently i put them in a styrophone cooler but its still at 80%, my question is what the hells going on with the colonization- has anyone ever had to wait so damn long before they notice growth- what are some things i can do to get this show on the road....

Shoulda followed directions... It could work but it probobly wont.. And u dont realy need to humidify during incubation...

as magic said, humidity isnt really a factor during colonization

the jars will create their own enviorment within the jar; their own temperature, and humidity.

sadly, hes right, you shoulda followed directions
using half less vermiculite, or even half less of anything in a recipe will never result in a proper substance. this is evident when you run out of flour for a birthday cake, it just wont be the same.

as for my dog, hes had jars that wont colonize...
usually these came from moisture content, some were entirely too wet, some way too dry...

and hes had jars that have started to colonize, but will stall due to moisture content.
all he sees are dehydrated mycellium spots (where it looks like a tree of sorts) (proper term?)
so this does back up peoples statement that "better to be on the dry side"
the dry jars for the most part did start to colonize, but would stop around 50%
the wet jars would either be lost to contamination quickly, or never colonize...

oh, and hes also had cakes that took upwards of two weeks before colonization started to take place in abundance. the cause? air-tight lids. the mycellium would start form, get about the size of a penny, sometimes a quarter, then just stop dead in its tracks. poking holes in his lids, then covering with aluminum foil definately made a difference for him.

just want to make the readers aware that these are just observations ive made, there could be hundreds of variables in mine, yours, and everyones setup that causes anomalies.

No probably not... did you put BRF in too or just the verm? And also, are you incubating that shit, because it can take a really long time to see growth without incubation.

if u had 12 jars with 1cc per jar, that would take longer for the myc to show, that is, if you injected the spores in the middle. Where did you shoot em in at?? If you did it on the side where you can see it, and you still see no growth after 10 days, i would be a little worried. My advice is this, give it 4 more days*(this is if you shot the spores in on the side)*, and after that I dunno, guess your outa luck :/

Anyways if you shot them in the middle, it could take as long as 2 weeks to see any myc poking through, and even longer if the formula wasent right

good luck dude

Heh.... 2:1:1 verm:brf:water just barely mixes together all the way, 1:1:1 will NOT mix together right.... I assume he meant degrees when he said %.

Teks are written because they work, not following the tek exactly, in most cases causes it to fail.

I would guess that the reason you havent seen (much) germination is because you messed with the substrate formula. If you have to drink a half gallon of water to save your life, would you only drink 1/4 gallon?

2Experimental: The squirrel used 1cc per 1/2 pint, from a VERY light syringe, could have sworn it was just water, without an eye loop. Colonization was visible for the little nut chaser (hes a squirrel, you pervert) in 4-5 days, 24 hours in a karo jar. You are right about shooting in the middle though, took 2-3 weeks for visible colonization on the jar squirrel shot in the middle.

The squirrel recently (the 30th i believe) knocked up 3 1/2 pints with a very dark hawaiian syringe, and all are atleast 40% colonized, one is about 60% colonized. On top of the fast colonization time, he used FINE vermiculite, I have read several times here and other boards that fine will not work, colonizes slowly, etc... thats bull shit. (it worked for the squirrel 4 times counting the cambo he knocked up) All your foaf has to do is be careful not to pack it at all (can you brush your teeth? good.. you can load a jar without packing it)

I would definitely toss if you haven't noticed any mycelium growth in 6 years.

Same here bro! Take a look at my grow log, today finally the mycelium showed up! At least i think it is mycelium lol

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/11121020/page/2

It's been 8 days since inoculation! Only 1 jar out of 8 showed signs of activity! The others looks exactly the same as when i put them inside the incubator. I'll give them a week more.

Good Luck!
