Outdoor Cube Patch
#16156773 - 04/29/12 06:59 PM (12 years, 8 months ago) |

Alright so Ive made an outdoor patch of some Grain to Grain..Two 16oz(big) jars fully colonized..Dug a whole and threw in some hay and about 3/4 of a brick of Coir, and quite a bit of Perlite..I watered that, let it sit overnight then threw in my jars the next night..Covered with a light layer of dirt.. It rained the next day for about 30 minutes..But hasnt rained since then..Theyve been in the ground for about 4 days now.. Should I water them or let nature run its course?? Thanks PF~

You need to judge for yourself how dry the ground is, moisture is great for outdoors patches. Think about it, mushrooms always pop up after a big rain.

Diesel:Right on man,but Mushrooms grow only when the water leaves the surface of the substrate right?? So if thats the case then I would need to only water after each flush right..?? But being I just "cased" it and I havent had a 1st flush should I water it every few days til I get some pins?? Thanks~
Cubes4Cancer: definitely crumbled up and mixed into substrate.. Thanks~

I think adding perlite was a poor decision.
With outdoor patches you water only enough to keep the patch from drying out until full colonization at which point you water thoroughly for a few days in a row.

I like to let the grain grow into the coir first then put it outside. Once I put it outside I try to find a humid shady spot. Like a mossy place near a stream. Then I cover it with verm.
I would just water it a little everyday it didn't rain and looked dry.

Yeah..Well I live in a pretty humid area..And Ive got the patch in a shaded spot..It only gets direct sunlight for maybe an hour or two a day..And even then its not really direct sunlight because its unerneath an overhang,so Im thinking it shouldnt really need watering that much..But hey,u guys are the pros at cultivation..But just to let you know I do live in the Tennessee River Valley so it stays pretty humid all summer.. Thanks for replys.. anymore would be greatly appreciated Thanks again! PEACE

anymore input my fellow shroomerites?? Update..Checked the patch today and it seems moist..there are a thin layer of leaves over the top of the patch..seems pretty moist..It rained pretty hard today for about an hour..And the humidity stays relatively high where I live..usually around 60-85% relative humidity during the day I think..I could be wrong..But I know during the summer months its so humid you cant go outside and chilll like u can in the Spring..It will be 85 degrees but feel like its almost 100 because of the humidity.. I know that is a plus for an outdoor patch Anyways sorry to bump this thread,I just was wondering if I could get some more input from some people with Outdoor Cubensis Patch Knowledge Thanks again Best Regards~

I'm gonna be doing some outdoor stuff soon. I live in Florida, so they should do pretty damn good.

Yeah..Florida is definitely the right spot for an outdoor patch..You prolly wont even have to maintain the patch bro..let mother nature do her thing ya know..Cubes grow like wild flowers down there it seems..You lucky Floridians :P Hey man..Check this out..This should make ya laugh About 6 years ago or so,a friend and I went down to Zephyrhills,Fl headed to our first ever Festival,right..It was called Livestock..Well we get close and we get into this small town..Were riding in my buddys car just traveling down the road, and mind you that were in a town ya know..Not a big town but definitely a pretty nice sized city..Anyways,were going about our business going down the road and I happen to look over and in this dudes front and side yard he has a fenced in cow dude..NO BULLSHIT BRO..It was your average one story house..no barn..no field,nothing..Just his house and a fenced in yard with a cow in it bro..HHmmmmm I wonder what that guy was up to,right!?!! Man Ill never forget that for the rest of my life..It was epic! The Festival was put on by a rock station down there called 98 Rock I believe out of Tampa..Anyways it was killer too..I believe Puddle of Mud were headlining the Event..

I'll definitely keep a log when I do my outdoor stuff. I've got a nice size tray I'm going to put out as soon as it is done, plus I'm gonna bury all my spent cakes!
It was 98 Rock that did the concert, they're a pretty decent station. And if you ever come down this way again, shoot me a PM man.

RPW I will most definitely hit you up if I head down that way man...
Cubes4Cancer: I read your tek in your journal..sounds good man..But its a little too late for me to add the plastic..O well..This was basically just a trial run anywho..But I still think it will fruit.. The only thing is that this patch is in the shade all day..It might get at the most 30 minutes of direct sunlight a day,and Im really not even sure if it gets direct sunlight..Because its under some stairs outside.. Thanks for the pointers guys!! happy shroomin
p.s. Ill definitely keep you guys updated!!

yeah you'll still have success for sure. i only use the plastic in the bottom because of this florida sand,it really suxs the life outta your substrate.i usually try to find a spot that gets mostly direct moring sunlight for an hour or so and filterd light the rest of the day,but thats not always possible.

Once cubes start fruiting outdoors, they fruit pretty aggressively. I've had days last year where I'd go to a spot of mine and pick the mature ones, and go back the same night after a rain and the pins had matured already.

Man they sure do.. I just checked them and the myceliums already breaking through the surface in some areas!!
Ive got this patch in a spot where it gets drenched when it rains..and weve had some measurable amounts of rainfall here lately so I was kinda worried when I went out there to take a look at the patch earlier..But its looking top notch actually..so...??
Thanks
