I need Shroom ID plz
    #1614362 - 06/06/03 10:18 AM (20 years, 9 months ago)

Hello, my first post . I live in Tampa Bay, Florida and I have found some small mushrooms in my woods. Wondering if they are active can i please get ID? I found these mushrooms on soil and moss. Mostly under the shade of ferns.

( I had more pics but this website wont let me upload anymore...)
I am working on sporeprints.

I can tell you one thing: it's not active.

To make an accurate ID we're going to need to know what color that spore print turns out to be and what the mushroom was growing from. Smell and brusing reaction might help out as well.

I agree, its not active...so if thats all you were interested in, you could toss it.

If you're in Fla. you can be looking in cow pastures for psilocybe cubensis and copelandia cyanescens...the two most common magic mushrooms in your area.

They are growing now, so you should start a lookin!

OK... I did some more hunting around my neighborhood. I just skateboarded around and ran threw peoples yards. I only found 2 different types in my next door neighbors lawn..(a little tall grass).
I am a newb to mushrooms so i dont know what it means to bruise them but... if it means what color it changes around breakage the first one is redish brown... although through the base i can see blue so i dont know. (i am still working on prints)

Here is the first mushroom i found. ( it had a strong shroom smell.)

The gills are dark brown ( not as dark as it looks in picture though)

Here is the second one. (very light smell, and will not bruise. It is very juicy inside the stem and the stem is almost transparent (translucent or whatever). As u can see it has point cap and very thin stem at the top. It has a large bulb at the bottom (the 1st shroom had no visible bulb).

I hope someone can please tell me if any of these are active... i have prints coming but i wont be able to post pics for another 24 hours... so i will describe color.
These were obtained in Tampa Bay, Florida near Odessa.

Erm... As much as I hate telling people this: Read the mushroom hunting FAQ. It has MORE than enough info about mushrooms. Everything you've asked in this post can be answered by reading though the FAQ. Just click the thing up top that says FAQ and click mushroom hunting. Good luck.

I checked the prints... Only the 1st mushroom (the whitest one) made a print: it is very black. I would apreciate it if someone gave me a quick answer if it is active or not... i have read that faq many times and it has not answered any my questions

What you found could possibly be Panaeolus...which is the same genus as Copelandia. They have black sporeprints.

They appear NOT to be active.

The mushrooms which you would want to hunt for in the cow pastures would be Psilocybe cubensis -- The most common mushroom here on these boards (Check out the growlog forum for pictures) and Copelandia cyanescens.

Try this. Go to google.com, click on images, then type in those species... It should bring up quite a few pictures of the mushrooms. Try to look for outside pictures as cultivated specimens do look different.

I just road all the way to what i thought to be a cow field, which is now a neighborhood... :frown:
I do not know of any cow pastures now, this sucks.
All i want is one active specimen so i can get a sporeprint and grow them... now i must stick to yards and my woods for hunting. Thanks  everyone for helping me.

If I were you, I'd find some cow patures because you're going to find next to nothing in lawns and the woods as far as actives go.

yup ^^^^ unless you get a P. caerilupes

i sent you a pm with stuff on florida shrooms. so check it out, go to MY HOME at the top.

once you get the spore prints maybe we can id those shrooms you got there except some of the bottoms pics they are way too dried out.

the top three or so...get some better, more detailed pics. perhaps you found a ps. casten. try touching the very bottom of the stem and see if it bruises blue. i dont know where you got the red from. take a side view pic of the first one if you can.

i brightened the second pic, i will post it tomorrow. i got the limit today.

The shrooms rotted and they had maggots all over them ( i fricken wigged out). But the 1st shroom did have blue at the bottom of the stem, i might have a pic with the base from yesterday.
