I live in a large metro area and we have at least 4 farmers markets throughout the week within 10-15kms of us. All the food is fresh, and originates, at most a couple hundred KM's away. The farmers markets run from April until October or something like that...

Although their food is great, it is pretty expensive. :S

I didn't use them much this year because money was tight, but would like to use them next spring/summer.

I know of several, and there are a few butchers here out in the burbs.  When I get some extra $ I need to get off my ass and go buy a bunch of meat from these guys.  I have yet to find a NY strip thicker than 1" at the supermarket.

Try Fairway.  Sometimes they even have sales on Prime.

direct to the consumer from local sources should equate to lower pricing

it should, but since eating locally grown and organic has become trendy the whole supply and demand factor has taken effect.
the fuckers like to act like they reinvented vegetables and sell them to city slickers for outrageous all organic prices.

So when I complete this smoking cessation program through work (I've already quit lol) I'll get a $250 gift card to different places I can choose from... I think I might order a ton of shit from Omaha Steaks.  :drooling:

Yeah.  Omaha steaks are bullshit.  Seriously Newbie, you're around NYC.  Check out Fairway.  They are definitely worth it.

we have dozens of people that run around here selling boxes of steaks from
the freezer in the back of their truck, I love these guys because they get
the butthertz when you question their product, most pack up and leave when
you start reading the boxes to see what the streaks are packed in, usually
water and a meat tenderizer, some contain transglutaminase, used to bind
various scraps together to make a steak and in almost all cases the cute
little bacon wrapped filet is no more than chuck cut to a small size and sold
for a premium price

if you break down pricing on many of these package deals you'll also see that
you pay as much as $8/lb for chicken and hamburger patties

So yeah I just don't understand how I've perfected steak yet each time I make it better than the last.  I have you guys to thank for my latest endeavor, done up marinated in Jack Daniel's original and Montreal Steak seasoning....

Raw:

Seasoned:

On the grill (with perfect grill marks, I might add)

Plated and disected:

It was like an orgy of flavor in my mouth.  I'm not worthy of this flavor.

I just grilled this up tonight... A bacon wrapped NY Strip done up on a charcoal grill.  My mouth is still thanking me! :awesome:

Recently I made pizza on the grill and it was fantastic! It's pretty easy, you just have to be prepared and put the toppings on quickly after you flip the dough once. Lots of oil or butter on the grill, it gets nice and crunchy. The fewer the toppings, the better.

It's really easy, I'm sure you'd be successful! You can buy pre-made dough, making the dough is the hard part. The only thing you need to worry about is greasing the grill and not burning it, both are easy to do.

I baked cookies on the grill the other day too! Just because it was too hot to turn the oven on. It didn't really change the flavor though.

My favorite thing to grill is vegetables! I love just slicing a zucchini in half and  smothering it in garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper and then throwing it on the grill. Crisp on the outside crunchy in the middle. Also delicious on the grill-Asparagus, pineapple, and apples that have been cored and filled with butter, cinnamon and a little brown sugar!

The possibilities are endless. If I could cook outside everyday I would.

I'll make it even easier, skirt steak + chimichuri for marinade and finishing. :boobs:!
