No, and NO.
You need to research what a casing layer is and what it's for.

Also, follow the tek.

I thought the casing was nutrition for that the myc can colonize

A casing layer is a non-nutritive top layer, applied to mitigate evapotranspiration through the top layer of substrate and to provide an ideal climate for the formation of primordia.

I think you're talking about spawning to bulk substrate. Which is kinda pointless with cakes under any circumstances, but ought to be done when they just pass 100% colonization if you're doing it. Your cakes are old, let them finish their life cycle. Start some new jars.

Meanwhile, go watch Roger Rabbit's videos.

think again.  your questions indicate a need to research more

Cakes can only provide so much nutrition before they turn south and become mold spore bombs..

Crumbling cakes into say poo is spawning to bulk. Casings are used to get a better pin set by holding moisture close to the surface of the mycelium. Use a SGFC to fruit both cakes or trays. Also use the damn search bar cuz it answers every question you could possibly think of. Every single one..
