Scraping a TV

I was bored today and I noticed there was a TV in the dumpster, so I figured I would get some scrap copper from it.
I dug into it and pulled out the electronics board and speaker and clipped a bunch of wires. Then I find out that the CRT is really dangerous unless you discharge it properly.
I looked up how to do this and it looks like grounding a screwdriver and shoving it under the suction cup thingy is the way to go. Unfortunately, I already clipped the wire that goes to it.
Is it botched? Should I just put it back, or is there another way to safely go about this?

Lucky for you... They slowly discharge themselves over time. Faster if they get damp or left in the rain. Cutting the wire connected to the "suction cup thingy" was the dangerous part. You didn't get bit or see sparks so I'd guess it's nothing to worry about now.
Is it botched? YES. It is most defiantly ruined. Considering you found it in a dumpster, I'd bet that it was ruined before you found it.
You might want to take it back after you salvage anything you want from it.
-------------------- I tried to leave my signature but it didn't work... By the way... Does anybody know how to get sharpie markers off of a computer screen?

Thanks. Yes I realize I got lucky. I hadn't even known that it was dangerous. I found it out in the rain, so I wasn't even going to try to see if it worked. I just wanted the copper out of it.
I'll let it sit for a few more days just to be safe.
