Various Questions About Species
    #1614249 - 06/06/03 10:57 AM (13 years, 5 months ago)

Questions:

1. What is a low-taste strain ?? (eg. the mildest taste)

2. What strain has usually the highest potency ??

3. What strain gives the biggest yields ?? (usually)

4. Is there a strain that has a good compromise of potency and yield ??

PS. You can provide your personal experiences about a strain if you want (i am kinda choosing my first strain, and don't worry, i know that there will be dissappointments and difficulties - i grow MJ already :-P)

I've found that cubies more or less all taste terrible, and the yield is more a function of your technique than the strain. As for potency, it's been shown to vary by up to an order of magnitude for home growers and up to four times under carefully controlled laboratory conditions.

If you're looking for a strain recommendation, try Equador. It's newbie-friendly.

Good luck!

B+, Cambodian, and to an extent Puerto Ricans-Quite agrresive, I reccomend it because you get to see the mycelium grow within a couple of days. A great way to teach yourself what a healthy grow looks like, although it's overlay prone when cased IME anyway.

There's not much difference between strains wrt yields an potency. It all depends on your techiques and the environment you create for the mushies.

Well known 'beginners' strains are Equador (visually attractive, I think), B+ and Mazatapec. But as I said, it's all about techniques, so you'll probably go through a stage of failures and disappointments. However, this stage will leave you with lots of experience, which will make you into a succesful grower one day.

You said you already grow mj. Well, brace yourself, 'cause in the beginning growing shrooms is a LOT more difficult than mj (it's called 'weed' for a reason), so don't shy off after a couple of contams and other failures.

Koraks: Yeah, i know how to take some drawbacks - not some couple or even several contams and other failures will scare me off... BUT - i don't just "grow" MJ, see - most of the ppl just take a plant outside and let it grow and then smoke it no matter the quality when it is ready - for me, the growing is MUCH more professional - and believe me when i say that chemicals suck (especially when you have struggled with 100 different chems and minerals for months to get the best potencies and yields ...) So, don't expect every mj grower to be the same ;-)

Anyways, i DON'T like ordinary mushrooms. (and i know, i could eat those in a pizza etc - but it would slow the actual melting process in my stomach - would take longer to take effect - and maybe slightly less powerful effect.) What is the MOST TASTELESS strain ?

I think your gonna taste them no matter what. No strain is going to be tasteless. Try drying them and encapsulating them if the taste is that gross to you.

I dont really mind the taste of them when theyre dry. But something I do that works very well is just take a dry shroom, smother it with peanut butter and wham, dont taste anything but crunchy peanut butter

you mean strain and not species - species would be comparing cubensis with say azurescens

Bluemeanie: Oh sorry Mr. Perfection - I thought n00bs are welcome here to ask questions but NO - You require those exact right terms right from the start! YEAH! That's the way to attract new people to grow! You're my idol!

AXTV: Ok, nice tip, Thx :-)
