first flush always high humidity
    #1614248 - 06/06/03 10:57 AM (13 years, 6 months ago)

All the first flushes on my casings show signs of being too wet (white fluff) and the pins stunt. After I clear off all of the puff, the 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th flushes come out beautifully. My terrarium has no perlite in it...I only mist once a day... Is there any way to make these first flushes come out as nice as the latter ones? BTY, I fan 3-4 times daily and one of my terrariums is glass and the other is a plastic bin. Both terrariums exhibit this phenomenon, and the strains are EQ and MAL Thank you so much in advance!

hmm...Perhaps, I do follow the 60/40 tek to the letter...I will try adding less water. Do you think that this will inhibit following flushes?

are you spraying the pins directly? you dont actually want water droplets on your mushrooms.

i agree with the above posts, it must not be the air thats too humid if you are only spraying, but it could be if you live in a humid area. is your casing layer always moist/on the drier side or is it constantly wet, being able to see a few water droplets on it-cause you dont want that, you want it fluffy and MOIST thats it-good luck!

this is "why".

It all starts with the spray from the hand sprayer. The first rule is to never directly spray the fungus. This initial spray is comprised of water droplets that are giant ponds of water in relation to the fine mycelial networks of the fungal threads. In culture, the droplet of water will drown the micro world of the fungal structures and thereby inhibit or contaminate growth. But the airborne molecularized water floats into the fine structures and gives the fungus humidity as needed. Molecularized water is another way of describing water that has evaporated into the air.

Yeah, i think that when most people mist their shit, they do directly mist it... I mean you don't want to blast the cakes / casing or whatever but if you aim it near them... when you have a 10 gal aquarium you kind of hae to directly mist them.

Try not to mist the bigger mushrooms directly since this can cause mushroom rot.

and where does it say to directly mist the pins?

this is not a fuckin house plant.

what do you think humidity is for?

if you could just spray em down there would'nt really be any need for humidity

misting the casing is okay, then when pins form you should stop and relly on humidity from the fruting chamber.
