    #1611939 - 06/05/03 04:35 PM (13 years, 11 months ago)

Man I just spent the afternoon searching for desicant for my dryer....I checked at Crappy tire, Hoe Depot and MallWart no luck anywhere....does anyone know of a place that does have some....or the name brand of one in Canada so I don't have to explain what it is to the retards at the store everytime....I've heard of DampRid and DampBegone...but I haven't found that in CANada yet....thanks
P.S I checked in the paint departments....

Dunno if this helps, but in the UK it's usually around the plumbing sections of DIY stores. Look for refills for moisture traps.

Hmm... Salt (NaCl2) could work, but salt (CaCl2) would work better. Try instant ocean products from the pet store. Leave a lunch bag full of it out in room for a day or so, it'll be soaked.

Hardware stores sell damp-rid, usualy in the area with cleaning products, row 15, in the one i work in.. ::shrug:: you can get a box of it for 5$, probably a pound or two, and it can be recharged. (See instructions on box) ::edit:: Like Scvotto said, get the refill, MUCH cheaper, and you dont need the unit anyway.

No no
Not just salt..
Get like... Quick Melt.. or Magi-Melt or some other name that's similar... it's anhydrous calcium chloride pellets

lil white chunks/balls.. same things as damp rid.. but in larger amounts, for less!

It's also called Damp Out or Dry Ryte, I would call around to my local stores. You may also be able to find it at a boating store. Good Luck

Hey ShroomJockey, why don't you contact a computer company or so? As a builder, I know that every computer case comes with a little baggie of desiccant. If you fear that it might already be humid, simply dry it in an oven on low temperature.

Home Depot carries DampRid. It's usually in the paint section.

I checked my little tub of damp rid and it said it was calcium chloride...

anyway, I found mine at safeway, check the home care section by all the dish stuff, it will be towards the bottom in an unnoticable place, they had the tubs, the refils and the damp-rid for clothes too...

Silica and CaCl are both dessicants and work the same way.

You can go around and collect them from coat pockets in nicer stores. They usually have them in there. You can be just like kramer

dont know how valid it is, due to the fact that my dog hasnt attempted it yet

i read a post here in the past claiming that epsom salt works wonders for a dessicant

in summary, you buy a box or bag (or whatever it comes in) of epsom salts (found .. just about anywhere, pharamcies, walmart, and so forth), lay it out on a cookie sheet, and bake for 45 minutes or until the powder forms hard rocks, then crumble and use that for a dessicant.

if and when my dog decides its time for dessicants, he'll try this method.

and many thanks to the original poster with this information, though i cant remember his name, nor am i motivated enough to find the post yet again.

im sure a message board search of 'epsom salt' will find it for those who want more information on it.

Lowes (in Canada?not sure?) salesboys didn't have a clue when asked but by chance found two skids od 50lb sacks of calcium chloride out in the lot with the bulk mulch and topsoils and such. 97% calcium chloride/3% sodium/magnesium clearly marked as calcium chloride ice melt. Might be worth a try.
