First time rooting, custom rom etc - Android
    #16093869 - 04/15/12 03:04 PM (12 years, 3 days ago)

Im sure many of you have rooted and flashed your android phones.  I have been wanting to do it for a while now.

Damn, its confusing.  At least, it is before you learn it!   For my phone I need to install 's-off' too...

So I head over to XDA forums and look for some noob guides.  Man, that forum is about the most hostile place to noobs that there is on the net.  I find my way to this thread...  http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300

Christ...  Of course I get stuck on step 1.  Cant get the 'revolutionary' program to recognize my phone.

Under step 1 there is a numbered list that goes 1, 4, 5, 6, ...

the thing with droids, they are either stupid easy to root, or you will become a brain surgeon first.  good luck either way, i game up on them a long time ago.

you're not root by default on an android phone. by hacking it, you can become root.

am I on the right track?

yeah you pretty much got it.

you want to be able to make changes on the phone as the root user. which is disabled by default.

I have an HTC sensation.  I haven't had much time with it.  I have managed to get s-off and a rom clockwork recovery thing.  I haven't bothered to root it because I have learned that rooting is not necessary if you are going for a custom rom because the custom rom should come rooted.  Root access is done within the rom.  (makes sense now that I know of course...)

My next step is to find a rom I want to go for and load it up!  Actually, my next step is to back all of my shit up.  Ill back it all up ( I read that 'Titanium something or other' is good) this weekend and then load some rom onto it.  I think I would just like a vanilla ICS with no sense or the like, but I will read a bit and see what other sensation owners like.
